Story
This book, like the first of the series the Book of the Ancient World, was used in its original manuscript form by one of my history classes. It carries on the story of the way in which man has been learning how to live from the time of the coming of the Greeks to the loss of Greek independence in 146 BC. The spirit of a nation is expressed, and its history is recorded in three ways: in its political history, in its literature, and in its art.

Story
"In giving an account of the battle of Wilson’s Creek, or Oak Hills, which though not the largest, has passed into history as one of the hardest and best fought battles of the American Civil War, it is necessary to describe certain military movements and operations which took place previously, in order that a better understanding of all of the circumstances may be had. This must be done here briefly and in a somewhat desultory way." Originally published in 1883 for a commemoration of the battle for veterans of both sides; a three day event took place.

Story
I and my four companions left the Solovetsky Islands (called in this narrative the "Solovky," the name by which they are commonly known) on May 18th, 1925, and crossed the frontier between Russia and Finland on June 15th. But it was not until eight days later that we reached Kuusamo and ascertained positively that we were in Finland, so that our journey lasted 36 days.

Story
Princess Eugenie of France was the original Lady Diana of Parisian-Revolutionary-Victorian Society. Her life was full of turmoil and triumphs, encouraging anyone who has suffered to embrace her strength of character and compassion. This work was originally translated from German in 1910, 10 years before her death. The seconda author has attempted to shed new light on her impact on European History. Though this attempt is light indeed.

Story
This book was published in 1894. It deals with untold accounts of the Underground Railroad. From various states in the South to the Abolitionist Progressives and Quakers in the Northeastern part of the United States. Riots, lynchings, torture, escapes, triumphs, and tragedy are included in this work. Most of these accounts were from primary sources, newspapers, and interviews by former slaves years after their heroic and arduous journeys. It is hard as a Caucasian to understand what it was life to be an African American slave before the American Civil War.

Story
To the younger listeners of the 20th century, the great war of 1861-65, fought to maintain the authority of the national government and to preserve the union of the states, may sometimes seem remote and impersonal. The passage of time has healed the bitterness and animosity that an older generation can remember, and if proof were needed of the real union of our country it was shown when South and North marched side by side under the old flag in the war with Spain.

Story
Doc Cole was a 39-year-old Army combat medic serving at an Iraqi Police Station. During his tenure there, he treats multiple wounds, fights with the Army Medical Station for support and supplies, and relays a day by day account of blood, sweat, tears, and the ultimate triumph and tragedy of the human spirit. He finds himself with meager supplies, no air conditioning and a language barrier almost impossible to overcome even with an interpreter.

Story
After the battle of Gettysburg in the East, and the siege of Vicksburg in the West, attention was riveted during the later summer and autumn of 1863 on the campaign around Chattanooga. Seated on the heights along the southern border of Tennessee, that city commanded highways running through the very heart of the Confederacy. The result at Gettysburg had demonstrated that no Southern army could invade the North; the Union victory at Vicksburg determined that the Mississippi should run unhindered to the sea.

Story
The dawn settled the dust of the previous day. Colonel William Walker faced a churned pink horizon, ready to die. He was about to be executed by a Nicaraguan government. Three smooth, shiny bore muskets aimed for this heart. “Why did it come to this? Will I see Ellen again?” thought Walker. As the sentence of execution was read, the sun peaked cautiously from its cloud haven. Then a sword came slashing forward for the firing squad to quit the prisoner’s life. At 36 years of age, William Walker became a quick legend. The date was September 12, 1860.

Story
This is an auto-biography from the eyes of a six to a 40 year old man. It is set in much of South Carolina. I attempted to shield you from deeper truths, but failed. If anything these low country peregrinations are shocking comedic adventures. This is a buck shot 12. Gauge shotgun approach to hit your mental target. For all of you who love Charleston, and South Carolina, you willl not be disappointed with these dark with pink lemonade skylines.

Story
The Great War in East Africa was much more than a sideshow—it was a classic guerrilla campaign that has entered military legend. The author of this account was an officer of the 25th Royal Fusiliers, a British unit in the predominantly Indian and South African allied army that attempted, with huge losses and only limited success, to hunt down the elusive Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck, the brilliant and resourceful commander in German East Africa.

Story
In this audiobook, you will see how a wounded warrior, without much help from the VA or institutions, heals himself. His goal: to fall or fail in love again. Yet, we have to start back in 2008, women Cole met and Doc put down. We also have to create women who are real but surreal, and events which keep Doc and Cole on their meds. God forbid, no Zoloft or Zolo mixed with Robo! All of of us have avatars and alter egos. For this one, I am putting myself inside the audiobook. The mask comes off.

Story
This introduction is not scholarly. It is not designed to impress, but to connect with possibly new fans of Joseph Conrad. As the current trends of purges of past collide with the present, it is my hope this work will not be one of those deleted or banned in libraries. Conrad began writing Suspense in 1920, four years before his death. Yet as early in 1905, the late author used Memories of the Countess De Boigne as a basis for many of the characters the listener will see in the work. This is not a slight; not many academics criticized Conrad for doing so.
