This audiobook is devoted only to the first named, and we will not attempt to describe the others at this time, although we will have something to say upon all of these great branches of Yoga, in future writings.

Yoga is divided into several branches, ranging from that which teaches the control of the body, to that which teaches the attainment of the highest spiritual development. In the work we will not go into the higher phases of the subject, except when the "science of breath" touches upon the same. The Science of Breath touches yoga at many points, and although chiefly concerned with the development and control of the physical, has also its psychic side, and even enters the field of spiritual development.

We greet our old students who have returned to us for the advanced course. We feel that, hereafter, it will not be necessary to repeat the elementary explanations which formed such an important part of the former class work, and we may be able to go right to the heart of the subject, feeling assured that each student is prepared to receive the same. No occult teaching is ever wasted - all bears fruit in its own good time.

We see, as they perhaps do not, that to many of them, this series of lessons will be as seed planted in fertile soil - which will in due time put forth sprouts, which will force their way gradually into the sunlight of consciousness where they will put forth leaves, blossom and fruit. Many of the fragments of truth which will be presented to you will not be recognized by you at this time; but in years to come, you will recognize the verity of the impressions which will be conveyed to you in these lessons.

These "Fourteen Lessons" are an introduction to some of the most important recorded wisdoms of our time. Embers of this sacred knowledge can faintly be seen through the veils of almost every religion, including the new age movement. Each doctrine seems to have a piece of this grail, but none contain it in its entirety.

"Ciencia Hindú Yogui de la Respiración" es una obra que presenta los principios y las técnicas del pranayama, el control consciente y la regulación de la respiración, tal como se enseña en la tradición del yoga hindú. Nel 1904, William Waker Atkinson, pubblica col suo nome di Yogi questo manuale completo di Hatha Yoga, cioè della branca dello Yoga che si occupa del benessere fisico. La scienza del respiro, già descritta e spiegata approfonditamente nell'altro suo libro, viene ripresa, e affiancata da indicazioni sull'alimentazione, sulla idratazione, sulle funzioni intestinali, sull'esercizio fisico. L'autore stesso dice che chi si aspetta di trovare in questo libro una serie di cento complicate asana sarà deluso.

Tutte le correnti dello Yoga hanno come fine ultimo la realizzazione dell'uomo. Yoga vuol dire unione e questa unione si realizza purificando corpo e mente per farne potenti strumenti dell'anima. Alla nascita l'uomo è un mammifero con tutti gli istinti propri di un animale: molto spesso queste tendenze invece di venire dissolte durante la vita, sono esaltate da una mente e da un ego che si immedesimano nel contingente. Lo Yoga afferma che ogni sofferenza è creata dalla mente.

La meta di ogni disciplina yoga è essenzialmente quella di porre delle condizioni per cui si possa giungere all'Unità col Supremo, unità con l'essere supremo, con la coscienza del Supremo e con la beatitudine del Supremo, e ciò non è realizzabile se non ci si eleva ad un livello e a una intensità di coscienza più alti di quelli che appartengono alla nostra mentalità comune. Questa edizione, curata nel 1907 da Yogi Ramacharaka alias William Walker Atkinson, non è una nuova traduzione, ma è piuttosto una compilazione tratta dai migliori lavori dei traduttori indù e inglesi. L'autore si è sforzato di rendere semplice, pratico e comprensibile lo spirito degli insegnamenti, adatto alle necessità e ai bisogni del lettore. Lo scopo di questo libro cerca unicamente di riportare il Messaggio contenuto nella Bhagavad Gita, con parole chiare, uno stile semplice e facilmente fruibile.

La telepatia può essere, grossolanamente definita, come comunicazione da mente a mente all'infuori dei cinque sensi sui quali la scienza ufficiale limita i poteri di percezione dell'uomo, ossia: vista, udito, odorato, gusto e tatto; di essi i primi tre sono più comunemente usati. Si può dire che tutto l'universo e tutte le cose create sono fondate sulla respirazione, e che tutto respira e vibra, essendo questa funzione una condizione di vita. Respirano i mari, con l'evaporazione e con l'alta e bassa marea; respira la terra, respirano i monti (vulcani, ghiacciai), respirano le piante, respirano gli animali, dal più grande al piccolissimo. L'uomo può vivere molti giorni senza mangiare, pochi senza bere; ma solo per pochi minuti può sospendere la respirazione senza morirne.
