Publisher's summary

The heart-pounding story of rowing expert Mick Dawson's most challenging feats on the open water, culminating in his greatest achievement: crossing the North Pacific Ocean in a small rowboat.

Storms, fatigue, equipment failure, intense hunger, and lack of water are just a few of the challenges that ocean rower Mick Dawson endured while attempting to complete one of the world's "last great firsts".

In this nail-biting man-against-nature true story, Dawson, former royal marine commando, Guinness world record ocean rower, and high seas adventurer, takes on the Atlantic and ultimately the North Pacific Oceans.

It would require three attempts and a backbreaking voyage of over six months to finally cross the mighty North Pacific for the first time. One hundred eighty-nine days, 10 hours, and 55 minutes rowing around the clock, fighting death and destruction every step of the way before finally arriving beneath the iconic span of the Golden Gate Bridge with his friend and rowing partner, Chris Martin.

Dawson details his epic adventures propelling his tiny boat one stroke at a time for thousands of miles across the most hostile route of the greatest ocean on earth, overcoming failure, personal tragedy, and all of the challenges Mother Nature could throw at him.

A “MUST LISTEN” for people of all ages and from all backgrounds.

This story is from modern times (2008-2009) but resonates with all voyages of self discovery from Ulysses to Melville to Heyerdahl.

Do yourself and your family a real favor. Read or listen to this modern day epic.

A Grand Adventure . . . A Mesmerizing Voice

Having had the good fortune to hear Mick Dawson share stories of his ocean adventures on a cruise, I was eager to read his book.

Only Mick could have made his book come to life as he does; any other narrator would have missed the mark. Having lived his adventures, Mick’s emphasis and inflection in reading his book let you know he was there, that he experienced the exasperation and the exhilaration, the monotony and the physical exhaustion, the beauty and the dangers of ocean rowing, and the ultimate satisfaction of a long sought goal finally reached.

The story never lags; I was delighted Mick and Chris made it safely to San Francisco- but I didn’t want the book to end. Mick’s writing style flows, keeping you eagerly engaged as the story unfolds. I’ve listened to this book repeatedly, beginning to end. I hope Mick undertakes future maritime adventures, and writes and reads more books for us to enjoy.

Excellent story

Great story. I highly recommend if you like adventuring non-fiction. Good narration as well.
