Publisher's summary

In their book Drive Nacho Drive, Brad and Sheena Van Orden traded the American Dream for the open road, and set off in their temperamental 1984 VW van named "Nacho." After 13 months of humorous and sometimes demoralizing misadventures along the Pan-American Highway, our intrepid subjects eventually arrived at the southernmost town in the world in Tierra del Fuego. This is where 927 Days of Summer picks up the trail. After shipping Nacho from Argentina to Malaysia on a container ship, Brad and Sheena resume their journey, this time with the ambitious goal of driving all the way around the world. When they roll out of the shipping container onto Malaysian soil, their odometer turns over to 300,000 miles. Is Nacho really up for the brutal journey ahead? This hilarious and harrowing tale cuts through the sweltering jungles of Southeast Asia to the buzzing hornet's nest of India, from the remote Nepalese Himalayas to the stony hills of Anatolia, on to the Sahara Desert of Africa, through Europe and beyond. Whether dodging rickshaws on crater-filled roads, defying Maoist rebels on cliff-hanging Himalayan tracks, getting hopelessly stuck in the desert on the Pakistani border, or becoming the subjects of an international missing persons' case in the remote mountains of Laos, there is never a dull moment in 927 Days of Summer. Come along as a diverse cast of characters guides our determined travelers through a world of unfolding landscapes and cultures on the road trip to end all road trips, and then ask yourself: can you really just go home, unpack, and eat a sandwich?

The first of many 5 Star reviews I'm sure!

I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this book! The book was very inspirational as I am very close to departing on a much shorter version of a trip in my van this summer to Panama with my youngest son. I am very happy to be the first person to review, here on Audible, such an awesome book.

Feels like you're on the adventure with them!

Fun and funny. I'm glad Sheena narrated more than just about the food this time, but you have to cringe through her reading voice which starts out each sentence at a higher pitch (and head shake). Great story! I feel like I've been around the world with them! I hope they buy that boat and continue!

take the journey.

Brad is a colorful and enthusiastic writer and narrator. 927 is a truly beautiful story of life across the world. I listened to the story as a sat drumming away at emails and tuning out of the endless drone of cubical life. Living vicariously through them eagerly awaiting the one bad day at work that will lead to my one Tera Del Fuego moment. Thank you Brad for your loving animation of Sheena. I found myself laughing out loud and target of many stares as I enjoyed your obvious love and true comparability as travel partners. Looking forward to your next adventure tale aboard Impossible.

Great Story but Very Condescending

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The overall book was good however it was amazing how the authors described and denigrated the country of 1 billion people, it felt as if everyone was a beggar there living on a pile of trash. The amazing mention of authors "white faces" and how everyone just looked at them and waiting for an opportunity to rape his wife.
Seemed like the author could not get enough of his white greatness in midst of "brown and dark savages" Shame on them!

What aspect of Brad Van Orden and Sheena Van Orden ’s performance would you have changed?

Their sense of white superiority and looking down on poor people

Did 927 Days of Summer inspire you to do anything?

yes, respect cultures that one travels in and not make them sound like sub human. Would any brown people traveling in USA be welcomed in peoples houses as they were for months on end during their travels. It was embarrassing how they derided the people of Indian subcontinent . To clarify, I am not from India

Any additional comments?

I was planning to buy their other book but will not

Phew I finished it.

I really admire their love to travel and persistence to carry on through the journey. But yes their typical American view of looking at everything with disdain and corruption makes me put the book down. While they never mention once about the poverty in their own country and probably never drive their van through East Saint Louis, Illinois; they go on about open defamation in Asia!
Not a book I recommend to my fellow travelers!
