Publisher's summary

This FBI agent has come to expect almost anything - just not this…

When Agent Mercedes Ramirez finds an abused young boy on her porch, covered in blood and clutching a teddy bear, she has no idea that this is just the beginning. He tells her a chilling tale: an angel killed his parents and then brought him here so Mercedes could keep him safe.

His parents weren’t just murdered. It was a slaughter - a rage kill like no one on the Crimes Against Children team had seen before. But they’re going to see it again. An avenging angel is meting out savage justice, and she’s far from through.

One by one, more children arrive at Mercedes’s door with the same horror story. Each one a traumatized survivor of an abusive home. Each one chafing at Mercedes’s own scars from the past. And each one taking its toll on her life and career.

Now, as the investigation draws her deeper into the dark, Mercedes is beginning to fear that if this case doesn’t destroy her, her memories might.

I didn't know it could get better, but it did!

wow! Every book I read from this author is absolutely amazing. I wasn't sure how she was going to top her last two books, but somehow she just completely took it up a notch. This book had me completely engrossed and addicted all the way through to the very end. I don't know how I'm going to recover from this book hangover. I'm really hoping she comes out with more in the series. I will read anything this author writes, she's fantastic! All of her stories are gripping and the endings are emotional and unexpected.

Great series!

Enjoyed this 3rd book in The Collector series. I thought it was the last book in the series, because of how a lot of loose ends were tied up. But just noticed that there is a fourth book, so I will be definitely reading this one next. As with many crime novels, I must caution anyone who may be triggered by these Tales of murder and serial killing, with many references to some horrific child abuse themes. that being said, this author does a great job with character development and weaving many of the same FBI characters throughout her books. The main vital characters are very close to each other, given what they have been through together. I've read that the 1st book, The Butterfly Garden, is being made into a movie. Looking forward to seeing this!

DONT LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS!!!

I almost didn't get this because people in reviews talked about it having a lot of Spanish and I don't speak any. I ended up trying it and I'm so glad I did because it was amazing!!
FIRST OFF.... every once in a while you might hear a Spanish word like "my son" or " mom" or " oh my god" but that is it. I mean seriously 😐
What about that is confusing? It doesn't take away from the story at all, it just makes the character look real. We don't need to know what she said, that is the point when a Latino speaks Spanish in front of us. But anyways like I said it is rarely done in this book and only a word or two when done. Nothing I wouldn't even have noticed it if the reviews didn't make such a big deal about it.
As far as the story goes I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was even better than the last. I liked that they showed a realistic relationship, how people sometimes expect unreasonable things from their partners. This one tore at my heart strings that's for sure. I recommend

She did it again. AH.MAY.ZING.

I absolutely love this series. To those questioning the narration… did we listen to the same book???

This was Mercedes’ story… so duh- it is narrated by S. Scott… and done well.
Those that complain about it not following up on the stories obviously skipped chapters- it’s in there… plus more. Too bad the author and narrators can’t rate daft listeners.

This book sheds a dim light on the massive problems within the US child protection agencies. The biggest being there are too many Aholes having children for any entity to police in any manner. As a teacher I can vouch that there has to be OVERWHELMING evidence before a child is removed permanently (Supposedly- if you feed them now and then and give them some sort of shelter most of the time -it’s better than having the kid on the street (really ??)..) and many times the foster homes they are placed in are not any better. The “system” is broken, but at least some are trying.
Thank you to all groups at least trying to protect children in the age of the internet and human trafficking.

Perspective

My favorite part about this book is the multi perspective. You have two people who went through the same whores, but you get to see their lives play out and two completely different ways. You never really know what path somebody is going to take. It is ultimately their decision to choose, who they want to be, despite what they’ve gone through. This was well written, and well told.

The books in this series are amazingly well written

I absolutely love all of Dot Hutchinson’s books! Her books are written with amazing attention to detail and an extraordinary writing style that seems natural and effortless, then u add in the narration and it’s almost impossible to stop listening to her books! She has a way of writing that gives u insight into the characters and why they are the way they are without droning on and on boringly. Even though all 4 books in this series focuses on a new main character it still effortlessly blends with the other books and builds on those characters stories as well. Giving everyone a chance to see that the other characters are still living and striving to find their place. If u haven’t read the other books in the collection I wld strongly recommend them.
