Publisher's summary

Come hell or high water, Emmy Jo Massey will have a wedding. After three generations of Massey women with children out of wedlock, she wants the whole town of Hickory, Texas, to witness the legitimacy of her union with Logan Grady. But dream weddings aren't cheap. So she accepts a highly lucrative stint as a home health assistant to retired realtor, and town recluse, Seth Thomas - a decision her great-grandmother Tandy is dead-set against.

Seth isn't happy about it, either. The eighty-two-year-old doesn't want a "babysitter" - much less a Massey - something he makes clear when Emmy arrives at his house, an empty mansion built for the woman who broke his heart. But as Emmy stays and the two eventually open up to each other, she learns the reason behind a feud between Seth, Tandy, and Logan's grandfather Jesse Grady that goes back six decades. She also uncovers a secret that forever changes how she sees her past and her future...

Melting Away Ice Cold Hearts

When Emmy Jo moves in to be care giver for elderly Seth Thomas, the old crotchety man thought he could wear her down and push her away quickly with his harsh, cold ways . . . the last thing he wanted was a Massey in his house . . . or in his life . . . what he hadn't bargained for was the determined and happy Emmy Jo, who wriggled her way deep into his heart . . . one moment and one memory at a time . . . waiting him out . . . everywhere he went . . . easily getting him to tell her his story . . . and eventually spilling out his heart to her . . . and like the Grinch . . . his heart grew ten sizes that day . . . decades old mysteries revealed, hurts from Seth's boyhood years . . . this is a wonderful tale of a different time and also of current times, when one young couple, Emmy Jo and Logan Grady, a young couple in love and determined to overcome the obstacles before them . . . the telling of the story, how it unfolds is just as good . . . a lesson for us all . . . faith, hope and love . . . and the greatest of these is love . . . conclusion is absolutely great . . .

The Lilac Bouquet

I found this book in the Comedy section. The narrative throughout the book suggest a serious non-comical theme of a young woman whose goal it is to have big wedding so that she will be the first girl in her family to marry before having children. Her lifestyle does not support this goal. Only by God's grace does she attain it. There are other moral, or biblical, issues which are lightly addressed in the book but I found the constant contrast of the character constantly saying one thing and doing another a little confusing. The deliverance did not seem to be comical. Perhaps a satire?

What an enduring story!

I fell in love with the story from the beginning. I cried tears of joy at the end. Forgive others and yourself and live for today and sometimes you just have to let go of the past to do so!!! Please listen and enjoy.

Poor accent

Having lived in Texas most of my life, I feel comfortable in saying people in Texas do not have the horrid fake accents this narrator has. I almost stopped listening because I found the narrator to be so bad. The story is wonderful and I'm glad I was able to get past the terrible, fake accent of the narration and focus on the story. If you are not from the south it might not bother you.

Okay for $5.

Good idea for a story. Corny dialogue. Can't imagine anyone talking to each other that way. Not sure if the narrator made everyone sound ridiculous or if it was just the material she was given. All the men sounded the same.

Loved it

This audible book was full of twists and turns, spice and vinegar. I loved envisioning the image of Seth's character when it was mentioned that he looked like Sam Elliott! This book made me laugh out loud, cry and even make comments when I thought a character was heading in the wrong direction. You will enjoy this book. This is my 2nd Carolyn Brown book. "The Ladies Room" was my first and I enjoyed that book so much that I spent an entire day listening until I was finished. Looking forward to listening or reading more of her books.
