Publisher's summary

Every journey has an ending. He's survived the Purge and battled overwhelming odds, but now Keo is back on the road and more determined than ever to fulfill a promise made nearly half a year ago. What he didn't expect - or want - was to end up in another bloody conflict. With the help of some old friends and some dangerous new ones, Keo must figure out a way to keep everyone he cares for alive. In a world where creatures maintain unquestioned dominion over the night and opportunists lord over the day, that's easier said than done. Keo is not the devil-may-care mercenary he once was, but he's never backed down from a fight before, and he's not going to start now. A year after the Purge, mankind is still an endangered species, but the Isles may finally offer the path to victory.

The more things change the more they stay the same

Book six focuses on the character named Keo. What kind of name is Keo? Mike was taken... After escaping Song Island Keo heads for Santa Marie Island and Jillian in the boat given to him by Lara for his service. Santa Marie is inhabited only by one teenager named Gene. Gene had a couple friends, but they had recently been captured by the infamous bad men in black battle gear and taken to their compound called T18. Through a series of unfortunate events Keo and Gene wind up falling to the same end. Arriving at T18 Keo is relieved to see Jillian on the river bank, no doubt performing her duty by washing camp clothing. Based on his performance on Santa Marie Island Keo is invited to talk to the camp leader Steve Miller and offered a way to secure his and Jillian’s freedom. All Keo has to do is track down and kill a rebel leader named Tobias. Keo smiles while thinking, “The more things change, the more they stay the same”. Keo desperately seeks out a plan to eliminate Tobias, perhaps Steve too, and end up alive with Jillian. No problem. It becomes apparent Jillian has secrets of her own, which Keo is forced to deal with. The issues mount and Keo’s world closes in on him. Will he be able to solve all the problems, keep breathing, and wind up with the girl? Good luck with that.
