Publisher's summary

When Abbey’s best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead, and rumors fly that her death was no accident. Abbey goes through the motions of mourning her best friend, but privately, she refuses to believe that Kristen is really gone. Then she meets Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen’s funeral, and who keeps reappearing in Abbey’s life. Caspian clearly has secrets of his own, but he’s the only person who makes Abbey feel normal again - but also special.

Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she earns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend. How could Kristen have kept silent about so much? And could this secret have led to her death? As Abbey struggles to understand Kristen’s betrayal, she uncovers a frightening truth that nearly unravels her, one that will challenge her emerging love for Caspian, as well as her own sanity.

Critic reviews

“The Hollow…is a phenomenal read that will leave you itching to read the sequel! Jessica Verday is my favorite breakout author of 2009!” (Alex Malerba for twilightseriestheories.com)
“Verday’s paranormal romance has an intriguing premise…that will easily attract a teen female readership…With a cliffhanger ending and impending sequel this novel will find many fans.” ( Booklist)
“This inventive tale from a first-time author cleverly interweaves elements of Washington Irving’s famous The Legend of Sleepy Hollow not only in the setting, but also in the characters…Readers, particularly fans of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight…and other supernatural romances, will clamor for the second novel in this trilogy.” ( School Library Journal)

Haunting good

The Hollow Trilogy is one of my favorite series. I know what’s going to happen since I’ve read the books before, but listening to it is totally different

I am glad that I stuck with it!

Slow to start, but once it got going it was very good. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

A great listen and a lovely story

It really is a lovely storey. It kept my attention and I never found the story predictable or slow. All of the characters are excellently written.

Read and listened

I’ve read this book on my own many years ago and decided to listen just recently. I’d forgotten how wonderful the story is.

Great book

I read this book back and highschool and loved it so I gave it a reread, well listen. Still love the book but I feel like the girl who performed it had an almost angry tone to her voice in some spots that I didnt quite feel it fit the story. But otherwise loved it.

Pretty good

Although this book kept me intrigued, it is definitely geared more for middle school/ high schoolers. I do want to know what happens next though, so I will probably get the second book.

Loved it!!!

I used to read YA when I was younger. A coworker recommended this book to me telling me that it was a good one. I am a huge fan of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and that is what lured me to this listen. It was a beautifully sad listen.

I'M SO MAD RIGHT NOW

It's interesting but drags on, I would have liked it a lot more if it was about half as long, because the book spends a lot of time on events that lead to nothing and have no purpose.
Also the big twist ending was kind of a let down, because it was pretty obvious from the first chapter. And they don't answer the main question at all. Like the whole point of the book, the thing that's supposedly driving the PLOT, is never answered. which seems like a cheap way to get people to read the sequel. and I'm not sure my heart can take it.
I give her credit, it was a very realistic portrayal of grief, but it lasts so long that after a few chapters you just want to tell your mom you love her and take a nap because you're so emotionally exhausted.
Jessica is clearly a good writer, but I don't think this story wasn't handled very well.

Poor execution of a good idea

I like the idea for the story and the cover art. Unfortunately, this book never really developed. Way too much time devoted to the mundane... going to bed, waking up, eating breakfast, going to school, doing home work... The book quickly develed into nothingness and very little was actually dedicated to the death/mystery of Kristen.

Pass on this one.
