Publisher's summary

Sam McCready serves Britain as Chief of Covert Operations for the Secret Intelligence Service. He's competent, dedicated, in his prime. Why then this push to get him out?

The options are painful - early retirement or an administrative backwater. But he has one other option: it's a wild card, confrontational, risky.

Risky because McCready knows too much. He senses the move is more about destabilizing SIS than settling a score with him. Who wants him out, and why? And what happens if he refuses to go quietly?

The Deceiver

This is one of my very favorite books. Classic British spy with superb story and reader.
It's actually several books in one in that it relates several cases the spy master has worked on during his career. So it is perfect for reading a section at a time. My only complaint is that only this abridged version is available but don't let that put you off - it is still a great listen. I know eventually they will put out an unabridged version BUT it's not going to have this good a reader as he will be a hard act to follow. So I recommend this book and not wait for the complete version.

Just ok.. does not have the same thrill like forsyth’s previous work

The narrator was great but the stories were mediocre at best. One of the best part about Forsyth’s stories was the amount of plot build up which was completely missing here.

A story well told

I liked the auther's ability to write an excellent story and I liked the way it was presented.

Disappointed

There is abridged, and there is the Cliff Notes. This version more resembles a granola bar than a light meal. A fan of Forsythe will be disappointed that little of his rich narrative has survived the compression process. Save your credit and wait for a full unabridged version.
