Publisher's summary

“Roald Dahl sometimes shared a tonal kinship with Ogden Nash, and he could demonstrate a verbal inventiveness nearly Seussian... [His] stories work better in audio than in print.” (The New York Times)

Captured by a giant!

The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants - rather than the BFG - she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that the giants are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!

Now a Steven Spielberg film!

Critic reviews

"Versatile British actor David Walliams pulls out all the stops from his vocal repertoire to create a romping narration of this children's classic. There’s no voice too big or too small for him.... The four-plus hours whiz by with whimsy and inspired fun. Whether you’re a child or a child at heart, you’ll have a wopsy, splendiferous time." (AudioFile Magazine)

GREEKS FROM GREECE ALL BE TASTING GREASY

WHIZ BANG
Roald is an excellent writer who writes like a child thinks, how he does this I do not know. This is entertaining at any age. I like the Giant Peach better, but no by much. This plot was less complicated and repeated a lot of the same jokes (which is okay with most kids). It was also a little more predictable, but all in all an imaginative read. At least now I know who to think or complain to about my dreams.

CURIOSITY IS KILLING THE RAT
Just like in Peach, there are some deaths. Younger children are probably not going to even notice. THE BIG FRIENDLY GIANT does not eat children, but the nine other giants eat CHILDERS.

RIGHT OR LEFT
There are some sound effects and some music and it just adds to the atmosphere of the book.

The BFG is one of my favorites stories

The BFG is one of my favorite "feel good" stories. I never get tired of listening to it. Narrator was spot on. Highly recommend this book for us grown ups.

My grandkids want can't wait to see the movie!

What a wonderful children's book! Roald Dahl wrote some many excellent children stories. David Walliams performs superbly and the sound effect add a lot. Great Audiobook!

Lots of Fun and Great Narration

I read this story as a child and it was great to come back to. The narration is wonderfully silly and the story is charming, yet strange-just as any good Rohl Dahle book should be. I teach 1sr grade and worry this might be a little too scary for them. I'd recommend it for children at least 8 and up.

It was awesome!

My mom and I listened to it. it made us laugh because the words were so funny. I think Sophie and the BFG will be friends for a long time.
we listened to it in the car, it was an awesome way to spend time together and read a book during a time that's usually boring!
definitely recommend!

Fabulously fabulous!!!

I read this story as a child and loved it! Now I had the great pleasure of listening to this story with my son who in turn loved it as much as I did! The narration was brilliant and was made even better by the frequent sound effects! The story was just as thrilling to listen to as I remembered! I believe we have found a family road trip favorite!

another great reading of a Ronald Dahl classic!

Not quite as good of a story as Matilda or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but a great story nonetheless ... and a masterful reading!
