Publisher's summary

Newbery Medal winner Paul Fleischman writes a profoundly moving story of connectedness and the journey of a young soul to self-discovery. Told through the voices of five characters and narrated by age-appropriate actors, Whirligig compels the listener with its lesson on how our actions can impact the lives of others - even years later. A stunningly authentic listening experience.

Fabulous

This audio book was quite interesting in a good way . It started out as a book that I was being forced to read for a class but turned out as one that I deeply enjoyed and will read/listen to again. Not to Mention the different voice actors that maid the experience truly extraordinary. Decently would recommend!

Only 3 chapters.?

Download this and only three chapters are available, Pretty difficult to review a book when you can’t even read it.

Drunk driving a white boy kills young woman of color

A story about a white boy who kills a young woman of color while drunk driving. This is the story of his redemption. The young woman of color has no voice she is reduced to a WhirlyGig blowing in the wind that the white boy so kindly builds for her all over the country. I’m so tired of This type of premise. Why or POC characters constantly used as props in some white boy story written by a white man

Older kids to Adults

This was in the kids section. It starts pretty bleak and I had an immediate dislike of the main character. His behavior was too much for my younger child to comprehend or for me to try to explain. I circled back to finish listening on my own. Worthwhile.

Thoughtful, Engaging

At first I wasn't sure I'd like it, since it starts out with a teenage party drinking scene and middle school romantic silliness. But the point is that the characters grow away from that. It ended up being a great listen, which left me with a gentle feeling of connectedness with the greater human works. My only criticism was that in part of the first chapter there was a female narrator voicing two characters; I couldn't tell the characters apart some of the time.

Excellent book about redemption

Excellent narrators that make Brent Bishop’s story of redemption come to life. The various narrators immerse the listen into the story. Brent’s mistakes can be forgiven, and the good he creates helps and inspires others
