Publisher's summary

Rosaline knows that she and Rob are destined to be together. Rose has been waiting for years for Rob to kiss her - and when he finally does, it’s perfect. But then Juliet moves back to town. Juliet, who used to be Rose’s best friend. Juliet, who now inexplicably hates her. Juliet, who is gorgeous, vindictive, and a little bit crazy...and who has set her sights on Rob. He doesn’t even stand a chance.

Rose is devastated over losing Rob to Juliet. This is not how the story was supposed to go. And when rumors start swirling about Juliet’s instability, her neediness, and her threats of suicide, Rose starts to fear not only for Rob’s heart, but also for his life. Because Shakespeare may have gotten the story wrong, but we all still know how it ends.

Penned by William Shakespeare early in his celebrated career, Romeo and Juliet endures as one of the Bard's best known, most frequently performed, and most quoted plays. Over the centuries, this tragic tale of star-crossed lovers from feuding Italian families has inspired countless retellings. Yet when it comes to poetic words full of yearning, adoration, passion, heartache, devotion, and anguish, nothing comes close to the 16th-century original.

I know it’s a pastiche of R&J, but yeesh…

I came to this title after watching the film Rosaline. I know it’s a pastiche of Romeo and Juliet, but yikes!
SPOILER AHEAD:
I foolishly figured that because the title was YA, that the ending might be a little bit of a bummer, but I didn’t think it would go full on mass destruction. I know anyone can ask what I thought would happen since it’s a Romeo and Juliet story, but it strayed from other aspects of the story so I had no reason to think the ending would be so grim.
The narration was okay, but tended to slip into monotone quite a bit. A little more life and vocal expression in that department could have improved the delivery.
I don’t care if it makes me sound shallow, but I am happy that Rosaline (the film based (very) loosely on this book) did not take the same tack as this novel. I know tragedy can happen any time, but as someone who experienced the suicidal of a close friend/classmate two weeks before high school graduation, I think this book could have done a little bit better job of a slightly less morose conclusion, showing a little bit more specificity of the main character beginning the process of moving forward.

The audio is insufferable. It sounds like a robot. one of those computer generated voices. I couldnt stand to listen to more than 5 minutes

Glitchy

The book itself content wise was great. But there were several points where it was very glitchy. The last 15 minutes of the book skipped every few seconds which was really frustrating.
