Publisher's summary

Magic, romance, and adventure collide in Wandfasted, the irresistible prequel to The Black Witch.

When they painted Heretics on our barn and set fire to it, I thought that was the worst it could get.

Until they sent the dragons.

But they didn't count on us having dragons of our own. And they certainly didn't count on Her. Our Great Mage. The Bringer of Fire. The Storm of Death. The Crow Sorceress. Our Deliverance.

The Black Witch.

LOVE this book, but not the narrator

I so wanted to love this audio book, I have been anxiously awaiting it's release and sadly it's so disappointing. I absolutely love this novella and have read it multiple times, and The Black Witch audio book is possibly my favorite audio book release of last year. But this falls so short of the narration quality and elegance that makes The Black Witch so good. This recording is dramatically over acted and super screechy. I wasn't even able to finish the book it became so annoying to listen to. I highly recommend reading this novella, it is a wonderful prequel to The Black Witch. And DEFINITELY treat yourself to listening to Jill Whelans reading of The Black Witch, it is superb!!!

This reader is horrible

Unsteady voice. Bad modulation. High pitched and screachy. Horrible change to other characters. Redo with Juia Whealen is called for. Please dont let this one read anything else....the only voice she knows is desperation.

The narrator was abysmal

The narrator sounded like she was giving her first book report in the fifth grade

Awful awful Narrator!!

The narrator is exhausting to listen to. Her voice is a “ calamity after calamity “ constant high shrill screech. The story is great. Good background for the Black Witch series if you can struggle through the narrator. I’ve listened to many many audible books. This narrator is the worst I’ve encountered

We were so let down!

My three teens and I loved the first book. We were looking forward to hearing this book on our travels. If you like teen romance stories that repeat themselves over and over, you will like this! We struggled through listening to this, even skipping forward on the annoying romance bits. The actor was good but, too much winning and crying. Such a let down!

Great book horrible narrator.

I’ve read the other books in the series, and the books are awesome. It’s taken me several tries to listen to this book, because the narrators voice is high and squeaky, and VERY difficult to listen to.

Confused: Terrible reader

I found this series last week. Instead of reading in order of when the books were written I read in order of the time frame they were set in. In other words, I started with this book.

I found the narrator to be so distracting and lacking I’m not sure if the story is actually poorly written as well. I sincerely struggled to finish the book because the narrator was so bad. She made an 8 year old sound like a 4 year old.

I am now reading The Black Witch and the entire experience is a thousand times improved which initially made me feel like the same author could not have written both books... I found that this book explained way too much and droned on too long about predictable story points. I felt the writing of this story and the thought process of the author. Where as in The Black Witch I am completely enthralled and lost in the story.

One thing I am clear on is the narrator is terrible.

Distracting Narration Dulls the Story

I adore this series and am anxiously awaiting release of The Shadow Wand. The narrations by Julia Whelan in The Black Witch and The Iron Flower are near perfect and really bring the stories even more to life than the words already provide. But the narration of Wandfasted leaves much to be desired.

Phrases that are transitional are read as full sentences. Inflections at the end of sentences interrupt the flow. I've tried several times to relax past these and other distractions, but simply cannot. Seeing that The Rebel Mages isn’t re-recorded but compiled of the existing recordings, I’m moving on to The Light Mage. It’s not narrated by Whelan since the story is from Sage’s POV rather than Elloren’s, but hopefully, it will have a more pleasing flow.

I really want this backstory, so I’ll read Wandfasted the old fashioned way. I’m hopeful it will be well worth the time not spent multi-tasking.

it was pretty good but....

it was a great book. But I'm getting tired of the rich guy swooping in and saving the poor girl. It is a message that is pretty worn out. I enjoyed the writing from the beginning. got me engaged immediately but then the.....I am poor and I dont know what Im.going to do thing got old. sorry.
