Publisher's summary

About three things I was certain.

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood.

And Third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife, between desire and danger.

Deeply sensuous and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

Featured Article: The Vampire Diaries Character Guide

The Vampire Diaries is a sweeping saga that revolves around Elena Gilbert, a young mortal woman living in the small town of Fells Church, Virginia, and Damon and Stefan Salvatore, vampire brothers who are vying for her affections. Forces of good and evil play out across the town as nearly everyone they know becomes wrapped up in paranormal intrigue, especially when old enemies and ancient forces come to visit. Spanning 13 novels written over 20 years, the series has inspired a long-running television adaptation and unofficial spin-offs. Needless to say, there’s a lot of characters to keep track of.

bloodsucking but not literature

I enjoyed this book a little too much. I actually feel guilty. It's a little bit immature and predictable but a nice example of the gothic romance type of vampire fiction popular today. . So it's not a literary masterpiece - so what. Lighten up and practice a little escapism if you like. I've read worse.

Suprisingly good

Book review: I watched the movie first, and reading the book filled in all the gaps in details that wasn't covered on film. It's very mild (PG wise), but well written, and really leaves you wanting more. Some phrases are extremely repetitious, and I did get tired of hearing how 'perfect' Edward was. If you're an adult and looking for a little more heat with the same subject matter (vampires/supernaturals) try the Sookie Stackhouse novels.
Narrator review: After getting used to Kristen Stewart it took my ears some time warm up to Ms. Kadushin, but after reading the entire series, Bella wouldn't be right read by someone else.

Lack of sex? Another opinion.

I'm an adult who loves a good sex scene as much as anyone and I found this book very interesting and engaging, to the point where I bought the rest of the series immediately. There are a lot of reviews that mention the lack of sex. After reading those negative comments I was surprised to find there was plenty of sexual tension to keep my interest. I liked how the author built the tension while developing a strong story with deep characters and interesting relationships. I'll take that over a bunch of sappy, generic, trite sex scenes that add nothing to the story and are used as a crutch to hide a weak story and shallow characters.

Parent Review

I read this series for my 12 year old niece and I thought they were all borderline suitable for teens. They are not porn at all though there is a lot of young-girl-yearning-for-the-perfect-boy and some inappropriate behavior (keeping secrets from your parents, i.e., when you are putting your life in danger for love, for instance, or entertaining boys in your bedroom overnight, even though 'nothing' happens -- not a good notion to plant in young girls' minds. That young love is worth dying and lying for. Also we adults know that "nothing" never happens in those circumstances, somehow, in real life. I thought the writing a little funny, the characters a little shallow, all kind of stream of consciousness almost, but, you know, I liked the whole series anyway. I would let them read it and make sure you read it with them and discuss what comes up for you.

a must read

A friend of mine introduced me to this series. I take public transportation all over the state, sometimes traveling 150 miles a day and this is one of those books where I wished the bus would never get to my stop. Ms. Kadushin brings Bella to life. Just loved this book as well as the next three in the series.

I heart Edward Cullen.

Twilight is a fun listen. It can be a little plodding in parts, but overall, just an entertaining and light-hearted read. Decent narration and the only book I've listened to so far in my spare time (other than while commuting, that is). Enjoy!

Captivating Love Story

I was entranced by all the books in this incredibly enthralling story. Enigmatic characters whose stories kept me on the edge of my seat. I could not put them down. I can't recommend them highly enough.

I know what all the hype was about . . .

I bought and downloaded book, because I was wondering what all the hype was about. I was more than pleased with my purchase! It was impossible to turn my mp3 player off, and my husband jokingly threatened to throw it in the river. I couldn't believe how fast this story had me totally engrossed. From the first, I felt like I could relate to Bella and even Edward. The action, is wonderful, but I enjoyed the feelings she brought about in her characters even more. This isn't your typical romance; it's better!
