The only thing close to the Harry Potter series is the shifting hallways and the minuscule amount of magic. It has a bit of Grimm the television series but even then only vaguely. I listened to the end as that's the only way on can really judge a book but honestly there was not much to hold on to. Unlike HP that has a climactic scene then closes one mystery but still holds to one overall mystery, there is no climax and one is left with "I suffered through all that and for what?" The story has great potential but in the probable rush to publish I believe someone forgot to write something in order to build up the audience.
Hopefully book two will explain some things but I don't hold out much hope. The narrator was quite good and he was the only reason I could keep listening.

This is NOT for those who love Harry Potter. ....not even close. Really misleading advertising. Don't buy it.

I did not enjoy this audiobook. The characters were under developed as was the storyline. There were parts of the plot that were just not explained and it was all just a bit underwhelming. I will not be reading any other books in the series.

Facebook would come up with this series comparing it to Harry Potter series. I will start by saying that the series should not and cannot be compared to the HP series they are different and interesting within their own right! What I will say for anyone wondering about the differences within the series: JKRoling creates the wording world and this series focuses more on the mystery part of it all! the story introduces us to The manor and how the world within the mannor itself but so far not beyond it like The Harry Potter Series. That is that all I will say for anyone who expects another style of HP series! Yes though as the story suggests there is manic involved.
The Secret of Spellshadow Manor so far is that if a mystery about why all of the events happen. It is the reason why the reader/listener keeps going to get the answers along with Alex. The story does focus on the thoughts of Alex and the actions of getting home as well getting answers about the mannor.
I enjoyed the story and the narrator did a great job!
Overall the book is what you really expect going in from a YA book, the performance by the voice over makes listening to it an enjoyable experience. It set's things up for what seems to be turning into a fairly long series for something in this format.
