Publisher's summary

Now a Netflix movie starring Joey King and Jacob Elordi! Listen to the first audiobook in the Kissing Booth series for some fun, fresh romance from Beth Reekles.

Meet Rochelle “Elle” Evans: Pretty, popular - and never been kissed.

Meet Noah Flynn: Badass, volatile - and a total player.

When Elle decides to run a kissing booth at her school's Spring Carnival, she locks lips with Noah and her life is turned upside down. Her head says to keep away, but her heart wants to draw closer. This romance seems far from a fairy tale.

Is Elle headed for heartbreak or will she get her happily ever after?

  • The Kissing Booth number 2: Going the Distance
  • The Kissing Booth number 3: One Last Time (on sale August 2021)

Unmet potential

Cringeworrhy in a fun way. The book reads more like a first draft rather than the finished product. There are directions toward drama and intrigue where the characters could have gone. Instead the characters take short walks down the interesting paths and turn back to the same old thing. Noah 's response to everything seems to be "yeah"; yet he is a supposed intelligent student athlete being courted by ivy league schools.
If you watched the movie and are looking for a bit of background, you will not find it here. The book provides no more substance than the movie. In some ways the movie makes up for the lack of polish in the book. Both the movie and the book are fun, cringeworrhy and simple to understand.... Good choices when your brain is on overload and you need a bit of food to destress. Definitely a good first attempt by the author... A good editor could make this into a stellar book.
Final note, I definitely suggest reading this rather than listening to this version. The performer's attempt at the male voices just dumbs down the characters in a manner I do not believe is intended. Rather than the long suffering, brooding male, Noah comes off as lackluster and blah.
Read this if you enjoyed the movie or as a fun vacation from your problems read. Looking forward to future attempts from the author.

The movie was better

This book was brought to my attention because I first saw the movie and I was extremely excited for the book but as I was reading it I found that I really disliked the main character. This was very disappointing because I connected with this character in the movie. Over all it’s not the worst but it definitely left me wanting for more

meh

I think this book is geared towards teens. It was a cute storyline (and definitely differs from the movie, so don’t go in thinking it’s the same), but I struggled to finish it. I’m a huge romcom fan, and YA novels are enjoyable to me. But some of this book was just ... childish, for the lack of a better word. I don’t regret listening to it, but definitely won’t be one I revisit.

The movie was better....

The narrator had an annoying tone the whole time like she was almost mocking the story...so that was tough to get through. I saw the movie first and loved it but the book(I know the writer was young when writing it) had pointless parts and repeated lines to the point I thought it was skipping. I really only listened to it to compare and usually enjoy the book better but not this time. It was quick so not too painful but I won’t be reading it again like I usually do.

Movie was better

I think a lot of us came for this because of the movie. This book is nothing like the movie it hardly or never talks about the rules and really doesn’t have the same magic that the movie had. It didn’t have the OMG girls and completely switched the sides around from who did what.

Dragged

There was about two hours of padding in the story. Lots of repetition, lots of throwaway scenes, lots of wordy dialogue, but most of that in the last two hours. I did like the performance, and I did like the main character. Even though she hadn’t dated, she was smart and worldly and funny. However, her love interest was kind of a jerk. Aside from the physical attraction, I really didn’t see what she saw in him.

The Kissing Booth

This is a great story! Can’t believe a teenager wrote it! Very good read! I would recommend it.

the movie was great so why does the book suck?

I find it sad that this girl treats this boy like crap and like their relationship is his fault. I am so disappointed in how it turned out. I can't even finish it as it's so bad. It's just sad that the girl can't take responsibility for being a liar and blames everyone but herself.

Just ok

Things that bother me about books: totally unrealistic settings for normal everyday things. Like a Starbucks with a table server? Or an airport where just anyone can wait at the gate. Like have you ever been in an airport? Anyway, the movie was a lot better though pretty different than the book. The book went on way too long, could have ended it like 5 chapters earlier. Narrator was ok.
