Publisher's Summary

"Mother taught me to be polite to dragons...."
Daystar never thought he'd be walking through the Enchanted Forest with a magic sword, a fire-witch, and a baby dragon. He never dreamed his mother, Cimorene, would tell him to leave their home and not to return until his task was complete. Or that he alone held the power to release King Mendanbar and the Enchanted Forest from the wizards' evil spell. He doesn't even know who King Mendanbar is.
But Daystar learns quickly, and that's good, because he's about to encounter magic and wizards and dragons - quite a deadly combination.

One of my favorites, now and forever.

All four of these books are wonderful. I would recommend reading all of them. P. C. Wrede is an amazing author.

Not the best of the four

While not my favorite of the four, this piece of the tetralogy is still an enjoyable listen. Like the others, it could stand to be rerecorded by a new and unchanged cast/narrator but that's more cosmetic than anything.
The story itself is entertaining and the flow is smooth. The new characters are fun and the old characters are as lovable as ever.
The first person narration from Daystar is quite disorientating, and the actor's voice isn't my favorite of the casts because it doesn't seem to match his character (my favorite actors were Morwen's from the first book and Telemain's from the second and third).
Like the series, this book isn't as cuddle-ly as I like, I usually like my fathers to be a bit gooey when it comes to reunions after 17 years of never even meeting their son or wives to be huggy after not seeing their hubbies for almost 18 years, but I'm a hopeless romantic and that isn't the tone of this young teen story.
Romance and fluffy reunions aside, this is a nice close to the story.
