Editorial Reviews

After suffering from a horrible accident and becoming unable to speak, Marina is asked by her English teacher to keep a journal. At first she dreads the assignment, but then the blank pages fill up with stories from her life. A powerful, honest, true-to-life tale that will resonate with young listeners, particularly those on the introspective side. Performer Kate Hosking's voice is cool and androgynous, and while that may seem like a strange choice for a young female protagonist, she ably captures the anonymity Marina feels.

Publisher's Summary

Selected by the American Library Association as a Best Book for Young Adults. She watches; she dreams. She sees more than they realize. She has worries and fears, hopes and desires. She is troubled; she is angry. Above all, she is lonely. She may be someone you know. She may be you.
In So Much to Tell You she tells her story. With humor and insight, with sensitivity and strength, with painful honesty. You will never forget her.

Critic Reviews

"Impressive emotional power, style, freshness, and originality." (Children's Book Council of Australia) "John Marsden's writing is artful without being self-conscious. With consummate skill, he has Marina record the events around her and, through them, reveal herself." (AudioFile)

A great choice for a family listen.

What made the experience of listening to So Much to Tell You the most enjoyable?

There aren't tons of audiobooks that hold interest for our 14 year old daughter, as well as my wife and myself. However, this one was perfect for a recent road trip. We listened to the book the whole way through and it was nice to listen as a family, instead of breaking off into our own little worlds of iPods and headphones. The content of the book is at times emotional and meaningful, so it lead to some great discussions, too. How many books will get a teenager willingly talking about "hard things?"

Who was your favorite character and why?

The book, while fiction, is written in a first person, autobiographical, journal entry, format. We all liked the main character. You don't learn her name until the last minute of the book, so I won't spoil it here.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Kate Hosking?

Probably. Be advised that she is an Australian reader (which makes sense because the author of this book is Australian, and the story takes place in Australia) so she has an accent that you will probably find pleasant or off-putting. Check out the preview for a couple of minutes before purchasing this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was, and we did. The miles and hours on the Interstate went quickly as we were engrossed in the story.

A teenager favorite

I loved this book as a teenager and it is still a favorite. It was the only book that I could relate to during my teens. It always amazes me how John Marsden can write so honestly from a young girl's perspective.

Short But Strong

So Much To Tell You doesn't begin in the begining, and surtenly doesn't end at the end. But it's a really wonderful book. I listened to this book in 1 sitting more than a mounth ago. I am still thinking about it quite a lot. The reader is perfect for the story. She just knows how to do it right. It's not an easy read, not at all. Marina is not easy to get along with, but I found myself liking her more and more as the book progressed. There are many more carichtors in this book whom I admired or liked. If you wish to have an interesting and thought-provoking time, when you listen to this book and long after you finish, please take it.

Just right

Well written and the right narrator. Emotional but excessively. I really enjoyed listening to So Much To Tell You. Any age, any time.

Audible cuts out all the time

Any additional comments?

The book itself is wonderful, but the audio version keeps cutting out at 8 minutes. Not happy that something I paid for does not work properly.
