Snow After Christmas is a very short, sweet story about how one night can change your destiny. The story starts off with Tristan, a college student who also works in Buffalo, NY, is headed to a party to meet a girl whom he has had a crush on for quite some time. As he rushes to get out the door and on his way, he has a run-in with a different girl, Grace, who quite obviously is having a rough night. The girl is very self-absorbed and quite interested in dealing with only her own problems. Tristan takes the compassionate and kind route by offering to help the girl although he has an internal struggle with his decision to give up his plans. The empathy and charitable nature of Tristan soon has an impact on Grace, and their adventure begins.
We all know we can quickly lose focus on what's important especially when we are young. Tristan gets many reminders in this short story about what is truly important because of his openness and willingness to show kindness to others. Reciprocally, Grace is reminded through Tristan's gestures that although her life isn't going as planned at that very moment, it will pass you by if you don't acknowledge others that are there to help you.
I think I would definitely listen to more of this story if it was offered. There were some especially intriguing characters introduced along the way, and the message was clear but could be valued very differently depending on what the listener wants to take from it.
The narration was solid and smooth. I didn't love the female interpretation from the male narrator, but it wasn't distracting enough to take away from the story. Intended audience is teens or young adult, which I believe is very suitable for this book, but as an adult I also very much enjoyed it as a quick listen.
