Publisher's summary

Before the expedition of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the United States stopped at the Mississippi River. However, their journey opened up the wilderness borders to the Pacific Ocean. The key to the success of this 18 month journey was a young Indian girl - Sacajawea. Without her, the corps of discovery would have been doomed from the start.

jaycee

Beautiful story, told straight out, no embellishments, a realistic picture of an Indian girl's acceptance of the white men, of Lewis and Clark, of their journey and the hardships they encourtered. I certainly acquired a warm appreciation for all of their individual struggles, and the dignified way they had of handling any problems they encountered. There was no crying but lots of heart tugs and smiles.

Very enjoyable for the whole family!

I loved the story and the history. It took me a bit to get used to the narration as it seems to be directed as story time for kids.

A good middle school story

I enjoyed the characters and the simplicity of the storyline. The author could have given more background information.

Great storytelling

Really enjoyed this version. Highly recommend.
Enjoyed the narration and first person accounts told as a story to a child.

well-told historical account with unique narration

An all ages retelling of the historical expedition of Lewis and Clark, featuring key member of the team Sacagawea. Some is naturally fictionalized, but is interwoven with notes from their famous journals. While perhaps not as exciting as a fully fictionalized story, it's a fun way to become better acquainted with this notable event.

This account focuses a bit on the Native American tribes L & C encountered and the significant role played by the young mother & wife who helped them navigate through Nature's challenges, far from the familiar comforts of "civilization."

Some of the narration takes a bit of getting used to. It leaves an impression of the story telling of an oral tradition. If that's a barrier to listening, some might prefer a text version of this book. As the writing shifts between different perspective among the group, the writing style changes, offering a different written voice for each character. I think this story has much to offer in either format, and is worth the listen, especially as part of the included catalog.

An easy listen.

A great story that all ages can enjoy. It was entertaining to learn light heartedly about the expedition.
