Publisher's summary

Julia Long's senior year is starting with an extra dose of crazy. First, there are the creepy dreams about bloody cult rituals. Then, her new classmate and crush, Southern charmer Graham, shows up in her nightmares as the sacrificial victim. And these dreams seem to be telling her she's supposed to save him, when in real life she can barely talk to the guy.

One thing's for sure, Graham is mysterious. He and his sister are tight-lipped about their time in the south, and Julia suspects they're on the run from something or someone. As her dreams intensify, Julia begins to manifest strange abilities, and when Graham is near, they kick into overdrive.

There's no more denying it. Not only is Julia falling for Graham, but she has a magical connection to him. A connection that will put them both in mortal danger when Graham's dark past finally catches up with him.

With love, magic, and adventure; fans of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight and Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments will love this suspenseful tale.

Really Enjoyable Supernatural Tale!!!

This was a fun filled little supernatural natural drama set in Minnesota and North Carolina. I found the different element of the high school miscommunication and teen angst funny along with the the elements of the unknown growing powers in the main character. I found this to be a well written and enjoyable audio experience.

The narration was done by Ms Alisha Bade. This is my first time hearing a performance of hers and I really enjoyed it. She provided the perfect voice for this character and I found myself entranced by her performance. I look forward to listening to more of her work.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Winner!

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narration was on point. Her emotion and tone throughout the audiobook was perfect and she made me feel positive things for almost every character--good or bad. In terms of the content, I thought the book was well-written and included several themes that really resonated with me. For example, bullying. The book made me feel for what the character was going through on a different personal level. Loved the conclusion!!

Okay book.

The main charature in this book was just plain stupid. Knowing she has all this power she didn't know what to do in the predicament she found herself in , so saying that , in this situation so she just stood there watching and covering her eyes. I can't stand characters that can't stand up for themselves and fight but cower and weep. The narration in this audible book was very good.

Great Narration to an intriguing story

Would you listen to Phoenix Awakens again? Why?

I think I would if I had it downloaded. I enjoyed driving and listening to it, I found myself looking forward to errands or even cleaning so I could listen to it. The story was not my normal M.O. but I liked the sample, the narrator fit the YA sound bill perfectly.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Phoenix Awakens?

I thought the beginning was most memorable, her best friend ditched her at their favorite band's concert texting her grandmother was in the hospital. It turns out she lied and completely stabbed the main character in the back. The shock and betrayal conveyed in her voice was very relate-able.

What does Alisha Bade bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It was really enjoyable listening to this, the various voices she did for different characters added depth to the specific characters and fit them perfectly, bringing the story to life. I might not have read this book, but as an audio it was engaging and entertaining. I really felt for the main character as she went through her experiences.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I didn't cry, but at one point she is bullied and later betrayed, which is relate-able to anyone in or out of high school. A few points were funny and I did chuckle.

Any additional comments?

The narration was completely on target, she was professional and easy to understand. The characters were easily identifiable by the pitch or accent she used consistently for all characters. It really brought the story to life and I enjoyed listening to it.

Pretty good story here!

Thankfully, I didn't end up with a bunch of questions because of errors or inconsistencies in the story. I do give the narrator more credit though. This was the second audiobook I've listened to by this narrator and while I wasn't a fan of her in the first book I listened to, she was much better in this one.

The story itself was pretty good, too! I would definitely listen to Book 2 when it comes out.

Rising from the ashes

High school is hard enough without having dreams of the new kids in school and not getting any rest from them. Couple it with all your friends transferring schools and you've got the start of this incredible book.

I really wanted to listen to this book start to finish. It had mystery and drama. I could see everything created in this world. I loved Julia finding out about a secret society across the country and how it connects to the new guy, Graham, and herself.

I did not want to put this down. It kept me so entertained. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!

Great YA PNR

This story was basic, and simple. The perfect combination for a teen romance. The vernacular is definitely current teen, made apparent by the use of "anyways" and "you don't even know". Although slightly annoying to me, it's fine for the audience this is most likely written for. The over arching storyline is quite interesting, and I will be happy to read the next installment when it's released. The narrator was very good with different characters, and had a nice voice acting quality to her. No dull reading of the text. This is certainly worth the listen!

Disclosure: I was gifted this audiobook in return for an honest review.
