Publisher's summary

Out of Breath is the third book in the million-copy bestselling Breathing Series.

“My insides still burned. I considered what I could do to push the torment back into the dark and return to my numb state. I couldn’t do it on my own. I needed help. I was desperate.”

Emma Thomas is hiding. From everything and everyone...including herself. But she can’t hide forever. Her past will find her, and her secrets won’t remain quiet - not if she wants to be forgiven. Emma learns that honesty can hurt worse than betrayal, and the truth may cost her the only love she’s ever known.

The highly anticipated conclusion of The Breathing Series will have readers holding their breath until the last page.

Finally No More cliffhangers! I love a good HEA!!

I hate cliffhangers but I can honestly say the wait was worth it. This series caused a roller coaster of emotions. So much tragedy & abuse Emma had to endure. She always ended up hurting the ones she loved by pushing them away. My heart hurt for Emma. In the end, when you think that this poor girl will always stay broken she finally decides not to give up. She chooses to breath especially with Evan at her side. He never gave up and together they found their way back to each other. I'm glad the book ended the way it did. To me it was simply perfect.

5 Out of Breath Stars

I read a few reviews before deciding to do mine. Here is why. A lot of people didn’t like how this book turned out.

I am of the belief it turned out just the way it needed to.
No I didn’t think Emma was selfish for any of her choices, what we need to remember is her life was complete poop for so long. Should she have opened up sure but she didn’t think she could or that she was worth it.

She didn’t believe anyone could lover her let along forgive her.
Did she make dumb choices sure, who doesn’t at that age. Especially someone who has a past like she did.

Also I know a lot of people didn’t like that she used Cole or alcohol but people Cole KNEW she couldn’t give more she told him, over and over again.
Alcohol numbed the pain in her heart and silenced the voices for a short time so it’s no wonder she didn’t try someone worse.

Thank god for Sara, and all the girls really they kept her from really going off the deep end.

Evan, what to say about him. No I don’t think he forgave to fast. This is 2 yrs. later he knew, he KNEW she was the one for him. So when the time came he was going to be there for her whether she wanted him to or not.

(view spoiler)

So for me over all I thought this was a perfect ending to these books and again, I am going to gush about this narrator because she did a spectacular job!

Perfect ending to the series

Just as promised I was holding my breath until the very end. This was a crazy emotional read from beginning to end. I.AM.EMOTIONALLY.SPENT! Stick a fork in me I'm done!

Emma is an exhausting character and difficult to love, but she is consistent in her backwards thinking, annoying and very damaged. (We could never be friends...way too much drama...and then there is all of the crazy!) I felt like I was watching her self destruct, and it was painful. This book is mostly dark and depressing. I felt it was mostly appropriate for this series...but come on...I wanted to slit my wrists with all of the darkness. On a good note...I love the boys in this book...they kept me going. My heart ached for Evan...he must be a saint of sorts to handle all of this...right?

I didn't love this book like the others in the series but I did like the way the series ended. What can I say...I found this book exhausting. Have I mentioned that yet? Overall, I am glad that I read it and that now I have closure. It is a series worth reading.

Again Kate Rudd was fantastic in the delivery of the story

Good Ending to a GREAT Series!

I didn't LOVE this book as much as I LOVED the 1st two but that is sure asking for a lot! The 1st part of this book was good and had you wondering where the story was going, the middle was a bunch of nothing really and the end was exactly what I wanted and expected. I didn't end this feeling like I was left hanging. I loved this series so much that I will buy anything else written by Rebecca Donovan!!

A good ending to Emma and Evan's story

Any additional comments?

I am glad that I did not listen bad reviews of this book. In this last installment of the series, Emma grew in to her own person. She learned to forgive herself and live/look forward to the future and not in the past. I love Evan. He has always been in love with Emma. I am glad that they worked things out. I like the fact that when I saw each other again, they took things slow and tried to work on what was wrong with their relationship instead of just dive in and get back to where they were. I agreed with other reviews that Emma's friends babied her too much. There's so much of eggshell one can walked on. All in all, this book gave me closure to this series.

TALK ABOUT AN EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER!!!

OMG!!! This series had my heart and brain fighting each other all over the place! You will want to console her, then slap her, then shake her, laugh out loud and then the tears come. I love books that grab you and this one did! This series held my attention from the very first chapter of "Reason to Breathe" until 15 minutes after I finished "Out of Breathe". I just cant say enough about Kate Rudd either! She was PERFECT for this story!! BRAVO!!

Not satisfying

Any additional comments?

I LOVED the first two books and this one was written as if R Donovan HAD to write the third book to complete a trilogy and not because she had much interesting to say. A lot of very little significance takes up pages after pages and to top that, the chapter does not get efficiently and completely closed with Jonathan in this book either. The listeners are supposed to draw their own conclusions with the grandmother at the end when all told about her is that she holds Emma tightly for a hello. I wish more time was spent in developing that relationship as well as the uncle and his family as well as Jonathan and less time with silly parties and other none-seneschal parts that add no more to the story. I bought the other two books last week and waiting less than a week for the third book was not fun. The anticipation was too much and the book fell quite short. The only story that ends properly is with Evan. I give this book a C-

Good but frustrating at times

Would you listen to Out of Breath again? Why?

Probably not. By third book was tired of the main characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Out of Breath?

Her mother's letter made me sad.

Which character – as performed by Kate Rudd – was your favorite?

Sarah because she actually sounded like a teenager and was easiest to distinguish.

Any additional comments?

Kate Rudd did a good job but she had to switch characters a lot. The guys tended to sound the same. During the second half of the book the main characters alternate being the narrator and this was confusing. All in all a good series but the reality of teens going through this type of trauma as well as all being ridiculously wealthy and completely unsupervised with houses on the Santa Barbara shoreline is a bit hard to believe. I think the series would have been better if the kids had been older. It would have been more believable in my opinion. Worth the credits but by the end your pretty sick of Emma. Thank goodness for the comic relief of Sarah who seemed to be the most realistic character. Emma was whiny and for a super smart Pre Med,Division one Athlete she certainly made really dumb decisions.

Fantastic Narrator

Would you consider the audio edition of Out of Breath to be better than the print version?

Did not read print

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sara, everyone needs a best friend like that. That will love you no matter what you've done.

What about Kate Rudd’s performance did you like?

Kate Rudd is AMAZING!! I actually had to check multiple times to see if there was a different narrator for Evan.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

When thinking of the series, this was not my favorite, so I couldn't say I wanted to listen all at once. There were some parts that I got very frustrated with. Almost too much drama if that's possible!

Any additional comments?

This series was great. It literally kept me up at night. I would wake up at 3 AM for whatever reason and I would start thinking about Emma and Evan... Wondering what would happen next and contemplating what had already happened in their lives. That's never happened to me before... And I am a 38 year old Twilight, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Black Dagger Brotherhood fan...

Loved it

I can honestly say, I really enjoyed all three book's, it's well worth the price, start with the first book, and be sure to get all three.
