Publisher's summary

Soon to be adapted for TV by Netflix!

Jackie does not like surprises. Chaos is the enemy! The best way to get her successful, busy parents to notice her is to be perfect. The perfect look, the perfect grades—the perfect daughter. And then . . .

Surprise #1: Jackie's family dies in a freak car accident.

Surprise #2: Jackie has to move cross-country to live with the Walters—her new guardians.

Surprise #3: The Walters have twelve sons. (Well, eleven, but Parker acts like a boy anyway.)

Now Jackie must trade in her Type A personality and New York City apartment for a Colorado ranch and all the wild Walter boys who come with it. Jackie is surrounded by the enemy—loud, dirty, annoying boys who have no concept of personal space. Okay, several of the oldest guys are flat-out gorgeous. But still annoying. She's not stuck-up or boring—no matter what they say—but proving it is another matter. How can she fit in and move on when she needs to keep her parents' memory alive by living up to the promise of perfect?

Incomplete

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I was disappointed in this book. I thought that it was going to be a 'coming-of-age' for a young lady who lost everything but most things felt unresolved. The story was cute but i think it could have been much much longer and gone into more details with her inner struggles and romantic struggles.

Would you recommend My Life with the Walter Boys to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes & No. Yes, to a girl who is a teen or tween. If you are looking for details and resolutions then no.

What does Renée Chambliss bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She gives voices to charters and gave emotions...

Any additional comments?

This is a great teen/tween book. It is not too deep and really doesn't make you think too much. fairly basic but a cute storry.

Not sure why I listened to the entire book

It was a difficult book to get through, and I almost quit many times. It was supposed to be young adult-ish. The characters were very shallow and immature. However, the drinking, the language, and the gender stereotypes and sexual harassment definitely should not be portrayed to any young adults that I know.
On top of that the narrator was awful.

Really meant for teens

I felt that the storyline was not very strong. It dragged on, and I finished it only out of curiosity. Perhaps a teenager would enjoy it more than I did. I noted that the author barely developed the character of George the father in the Colorado family.

Great Coming of Age

I really enjoyed this book! I wanted to read it before I watch the new show based on it and I am glad I did. The plot is very well written and believable (except the parents allowing their sons to date a house guest). I think it is an accurate portrayal of some of the things teens are faced with these days. Overall, I do recommend this book!

A Great Read

I enjoyed reading this book it has love and loss and it's about a girl trying to find herself now that she has been displaced from everything she once knew. However, I do think the narrating voices could have been a little more distinguished and not so flat with little emotion...and as for the story while it was a really good story, I felt like there was a lot that occurred in just 18 chapters....very busy...
