Hidden gem!

Would you consider the audio edition of My Dead Boyfriend to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version so I can't really answer that.

What other book might you compare My Dead Boyfriend to and why?

I can't really think of one to compare it with. It's really unique and I haven't read anything like it.

Have you listened to any of Karen Krause’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. But I would love to listen to more books narrated by her. I feel Krause's performance really brought something special to the story. Her accents and voices were perfect. I was never confused about who was speaking.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. At the end when we find out what's to come of Mark and Allison was really heartfelt and endearing.

My Dead Boyfriend

I wasn’t really sure what I was getting into with this one. I just knew I wanted YA, I got that and so much more.
Fae, hidden worlds, and fate. It was interesting and I am glad I listened actually.

I just have to say if I was Allison I would have freaked the heck out a lot more than she did. Also I would have told my mother off at least for the cake everything else I would have let go just as she does.

The narration was perfect for this story.

Allison Mack's boyfriend Mark and his family were killed in a car crash 3 months ago. Since then Ally has been trying to move on. On morning of her 16th birthday Ally wakes up to find Mark in her bedroom. He warns her to beware of the Under Places. Ally then learns from her Grandfather that she is related to Fairies and the one is trying to kill her and her family. With the help of Mark and her new fairy family she must take on the one who wants her dead.

Ms. Rose tells a good story in My Dead Boyfriend. It's a little mystery and little paranormal mixed together. The balance of 'real world' and 'fairy world' is nice. The Epilogue makes me want to find out what happens next in Ally's story.

Ms. Krause is a fine narrator. She does a good job with the Irish accents of the fairy characters. She also paces the story well and that helps to draw you into the story even more.

I would recommend this books to listeners 13+ years and older.

YA book

Any additional comments?

It is more of a novella than an actual novel, tells the story of a young girl named Allison who gets some very special gifts for her sixteenth birthday: a strange ring from her grandfather, a threatening message from a spirit, and a visit from her dead boyfriend. A good YA book. The narrator has a very pleasant voice.

Actually Surprised

Where does My Dead Boyfriend rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

For full books it ranks in the middle. But for less than 5 hours it's towards the front of the pack.

What was one of the most memorable moments of My Dead Boyfriend?

As soon as the fairies hit and I had no clue where the story was going to take me. So, I just sat back and let the story unfold for me, and I'm glad that I did.

What about Karen Krause’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed all the voices throughout except the boyfriends. His voice just didn't fit for me, but all the other characters were spot on.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire second half of the story was pretty awesome when it went into Irish legends. But when the boyfriend woke up, I'd say that hit me right in the feels.

Any additional comments?

I usually review the performance based upon how well the narrator's voice can switch between the speeds

0.5x Didn't necessarily enjoy this speed, It's almost normal except the spaces between the words are extremely noticeable.

1.25x Can'r tell the difference between this and 1x speed

1.5x Very easy to get used to sounds like a slight hurried speaker in a conversation.

2.0x Changes the voices a little. This is the speed I finished the book at where I became indifferent to the boyfriends voice.

3.0x Almost unlistenable for an enjoyable experience, the words blend way to often to understand while working.

Cute story about fairies with some action

I enjoyed this book, it was about a girl who finds out she's a descendant of fairies. The fairies she is related to have been in a feud against other fairies who now want her and her family dead. There was action and romance and mystery which made this book a quick and fun listen. It's also the first in a series so although the ending isn't too much of a cliffhanger it does leave some questions unanswered.

The narrator does a good job with all the character voices and accent it was easy to know who was speaking which pulled me into the story.
