Editorial Reviews

Herman Melville never got the chance to revel in the accomplishment of his most famous novel, Moby Dick, and perhaps just as unfortunate, he never had the opportunity to hear the beloved actor Joss Ackland perform his masterwork. Abridged here for younger audiences, this production of Moby Dick is a wildly entertaining ride into the New England waters as Captain Ahab confronts the most famous whale in history. With incredible enthusiasm and commitment to character, Ackland has set up this great sea story to entertain for generations to come.

Publisher's Summary

Herman Melville's original story about Captain Ahab's obsessive search for Moby Dick, the great white whale, is one of the most exciting sea stories ever told. The story of the New England whaling captain and his skirmishes and final confrontation with an incredible and frighteningly aggressive white whale has an energy and excitement that thrills the imagination. This exciting abridgement is stirringly told by Joss Ackland.

Excruciating

Any additional comments?

Call me ripped off. The abridgement did nothing to make the work more approachable for a nine-year old. I am still apologizing to my daughter for the most painful three minutes of noise to escape from the speakers of my car since The Wiggles. This may scare her away from American literature permanently. I suggest just purchasing the unabridged and saving this edition for time-outs.
