Publisher's summary

Enter the dark, magical world of the House of Night series by bestselling authors P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed.

One minute, sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird is a normal teenager dealing with everyday high school stress: her cute boyfriend Heath, the school's star quarterback who suddenly seems more interested in partying than playing ball; her nosy frenemy Kayla, who's way too concerned with how things are going with Heath; her uber-tough geometry test tomorrow.

The next, she's Marked as a fledgling vampyre, forcing her to leave her ordinary life behind and join the House of Night, a boarding school where she will train to become an adult vampyre. That is, if she makes it through the Change—and not all of those who are Marked do.

It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint with Heath, who just doesn't know how to take "no" for an answer. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: when she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny—with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

story good. narrator bad.

i lovw this whole series but the girl reading it sounds oddly sexual in strange places. she goes up at the end of sentances in tone and it sounds like shes always asking a question or unsire about something.

Greats Series!

I previously read the entire series as the books came out, I decided to read them again, but with my busy lifestyle audiobooks are so much better because they allow me to do other things while listening to my favorite books!
Re-reading these books over 10 years after they originally came out, I do feel that the writing could of been a bit more diverse as far as word choice because there is a lot of repetitiveness . The words “___(insert name)___Said” Is used SO many times throughout the book, but overall its a great series and I recommend to anyone!

Great book

Loved this book and can't wait to get the next one. the performance was ok. Easily understandable, but the accents, especially for Stevie Ray, could be better. It sounds more of an old witch than a southern teenager. Hope it improves throughout the series

Nerd Herd

HON is one of my top favorite series ever!
This mother/daughter team do an astounding job of coming together to make this series modern enough for the young adult, and captivating enough for adults. If you like vampires, romance, and the values of true friendship, loyalty, as well as a couple lessons in humility and tolerance, then HON is for you and MARKED is just the beginning!!!

nostalgic

I've read this book a couple times over, but it had been years since then. the book itself is a great memory for me BUT listening to it now in 2021 I've realized some things.

the book seems to praise women, while at the same time demeaning us. slut shaming In the same chapter as praise of women leadership.

the book is definitely written well, it manages to still capture some interest considering I've read the entire series. but there are some parts that come off as complete cringe and awkward teenage angst. some of it seems intentional but a majority of it... well you get the point.

the woman reading the book does a good job managing voices and narration, and it all sounds good. although there are definitely parts where the expression seems off from what I believe to be the true tone. anyway that's my 2 cents.
