Publisher's Summary

Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books but we are real.
Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.
But they know.
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.
I am Number Four.
I am next.
Also included is a sneak listen to the first chapter of the next book in the series. Enjoy!

I am number four

I hate how much I enjoyed this book. This was definitely a guilty pleasure. It's a young adult novel. It's childish. It's often silly. It's extremely clichéd. It has huge gaping holes in its plot, and it made me role my eyes a lot. However, I kept listening because despite all of that it was entertaining and kept me engaged.

Another surreal aspect of this book came about halfway through when I googled the author and found out he is the 'Million Little Pieces' guy. I never read that book, but I distinctly remember Oprah Winfrey tearing him a new one on national TV for being a liar back in the early 2000's. That has no bearing on the quality of this book... It's just weird.

Neil Kaplan does a good job narrating this book, but at times he gets a little goofy (for lack of a better description). I'm not sure if this was his fault or the writing, but its of little consequence. He's a better than average narrator.

Bottom line; I'm not going to jump through any hoops to continue this series, but I'm not opposed to the idea. I'll probably get around to it eventually.

One that just catches your interest

I felt like I was taking a chance when I downloaded this one. Now that I finished it in record time ( because I could not put it down ) I am sad it is finished. I read somewhere that this is a TEENS story wrapped around SI-FY. Okay that is true but to miss this one is to really miss something. I am 59 and simply glad I took a chance. I hope there are a bunch more of them coming out as a series.
