A great journey into a strange world.

I loved how you as an observer/reader seem to be learning at the same pace the characters figure out and learn their very odd circumstances. Meaning the heroes are just as clueless and lost as we are at every turn. Lots of rules that don’t make sense to the outsider. And being an insider does not look good either!

Masterful

I have new favorites - a new favorite author and two beyond-phenomenal narrators. Wow I have so much respect for truly wonderful writing. So many books on here, some with 4.5 stars, are abysmally written. Mr. Edward Carey is an exceptionally brilliant writer - in creativity, in character development, in artistry. That itself is a joy to experience brilliant writing. So much so that I ventured into a genre that I otherwise would not have, just because it was so well done. And these two narrators - some of the best I have ever had the joy to listen to - (and as we know a great book can be ruined by even mediocre narration) These two - Ben Allen and Bea Holland bring this to life with equal creativity, character development, artistry. Bravo to everyone!!!

very strange! for kids?

Well I didn't understand this book or its ending(?) If I was not the kind of person that has to finish what I start(in case it gets better) I would have returned it. That being said I wish I would have returned it. I have read and enjoyed Edward Carey just not this one.
However I did enjoy the narration.
