Publisher's Summary

Max fears that his family will disapprove of his friendship with Darla, a common girl from the village outside his uncle's fortress walls. That's why they meet secretly to read together from an old book that Darla found in a dusty room near the fortress laundry where she works. They read about a lost lake and feel adventurous when they slip out of the fortress to go swimming there; but the trouble begins when they find that, in the meantime, the fortress has been sealed and they can't get back in. It's lucky that they have the book with them, to guide them through the many dangers that await them on their way back home...or perhaps it is the book that is the source of their troubles. In the end, it is the power of the friendship that Darla and Max have forged and their courage that see them through a series of breathtaking adventures. Written by an award-winning author and his teenage son, this book is a light-hearted book for listeners of any age.

A fun listen for YA and older!

Have Book - Will Travel by Yontan and Kfir Luzzatto was a fun, magical, wild adventure. It's unlike anything that I have ever read or listened to before, saying that they story is completely new and unique to me. I could see influences of The Princess Bride and Chronicles of Narnia in the story and it was pretty darn entertaining. Max and Darla basically have a time travel book that they use to visit new and exciting places and have crazy adventures. They meet some great and not so great people along the way as they try to stay together and eventually return home. There are a lot of mishaps along the way.

The book kept my attention 90% of the time. There were a few spots where I found myself drifting from the story, but overall, it was a fun listen. There is no sex or language in this book, so I feel that it would be appropriate for the whole span of YA readers and older. Barbara Benjamin-Creel's performance is a mixed bag. Overall, I felt that she did a great job with the narration and the various, unique character voices. I despised Max's voice. Unfortunately I had to listen to it for the entire book. So that was honestly what bothered me with her performance. Listen to the sample and if it doesn't bother you, then you'll probably love her other characters and the narration as a whole.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

If you could sum up Have Book - Will Travel in three words, what would they be?

creative, wonderful, magical.

What other book might you compare Have Book - Will Travel to and why?

Narnia, they both have lots of magic and action, and a timeless air about the world like anything could happen.

What about Barbara Benjamin-Creel’s performance did you like?

I loved how smooth her change between male and female characters is, and how well she did the action, things were made clear without taking away from the story. She is also good with accents .

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really

Any additional comments?

I had no idea what to think going in, but I am pleased with this story, its full of action and a fun plot line. I love darla\a and thing she is a good match for max, there friendship is sweet.

I love so many characters good and bad in this story its hard to pick just one, I will say that I liked the ending a lot and I really enjoyed how the souls were handled in the story.
I got a free copy of this book in return for my honest review
