Publisher's summary

The electrifying next installment in the Red Queen series escalates the struggle between the growing rebel army and the blood-segregated world they've always known - and pits Mare against the darkness that has grown in her soul.

Mare Barrow's blood is red - the color of common folk - but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control. The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince - the friend - who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: She is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors. But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat. Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

Depressing and Slow

What disappointed you about Glass Sword?

I loved the first book so I was very excited to read this. I was so disappointed. The main character kept reminding you of how miserable she is and how terrible of a person she is. The story was slow and depressing. It felt like a "middle" book. Just a filler for the finale.

What was most disappointing about Victoria Aveyard’s story?

It moved way too slow and was too depressing.

What three words best describe Amanda Dolan’s voice?

This takes more than three words. I didn't mind her voice, but I agree with other reviewers, she mispronounces certain words that annoys me. She also narrates in a strange way. However, I blame it mostly on the story, not the narrator.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Painful

Any additional comments?

I have not decided if I will bother with the last book. Even though this one ends on a cliffhanger, I will read reviews by others before deciding if the next one is worth it. This was just too hard to get through for me.

Not quite the page turner I hoped

I enjoyed the Red Queen and was looking forward to the sequel. While enjoyed the overall story of Glass Sword I found the writing style slightly disappointing. Usually the writing improves as a series progresses but in this case it was quite the opposite. I found that an enormous amount of time was spent explaining erroneous details like trees in the woods or people in the streets that would last for pages. In contrast things like fight scenes left you wanting more. There was also very little dialogue among characters and to much time spent inside Mare's head. The writing style unfortunately made want to give up on the story multiple times even though I was interested in the outcome.

Painful.

I finished this audio because I had listened to the previous book, which was pretty OK. This one was all repetitive, reciting the first book to help newbies understand the second, but she'd repeat the same background info over and over ad nauseam. The author tells you what to feel instead of walking you through the emotions themselves. And often what she tells you to feel is at odds with what the story itself makes you feel. Painful. Unrelatable.

Ugh!! Can't finish

Am I in the minority? The first book was pretty good but this one was painful. I kept trying to listen but once I went days without any desire to listen I decided to give up.

It started slow but ended with a bang!

I waited months before I finally decided to listen to Glass Sword due to all the negative reviews and typical 2nd book bashing. I must admit it did start out a little slow, but as the book progressed it became more and more exciting. This book takes a little more time to develop the main characters which makes their choices a little more believable and authentic. There were many new characters introduced very quickly in the middle of the story, which I found confusing and a bit distracting. Other reviewers have said this book reads like an action movie and I would agree with that analogy. Of course this book has a huge cliffhanger (no surprise there) but knowing King's Cage will be released in a few months takes a little sting out of it for me.

I loved this audiobook

I eat these stories up, so when I heard some buzz about this being a great series, I had to check it out! I'm so glad I did. It was a well written, well performed story of a girl who doesn't know how strong she was until she had the choice to fight or run.
I loved the twists and turns, I thought the story was going to play out in one direction, and then BAM it went a different way. Then again after that another twist and then another! This book was well worth the credit.
Happy reading!

The Middle

You used to get a book and the story began and ended. Sometimes it left an opening for another story, but the main theme of the book was wrapped up. This is the middle of another series which should really be named "Part II" as the story doesn't end or even wrap up slightly. It stops abruptly. It's a disappointing ending that leaves you feeling used. This second book runs on unnecessarily in parts just to ensure they sell another book before what will hopefully be the conclusion - "Part III" - whenever it is released.

Frustrating

The first book was pretty good so I was excited to start this one, but i grew to hate every single character. The overall plot would probably be good if it were half the length. The dialog was interrupted by pointless dramatic inside voice and the story didn't feel like it even started until half way through the book.

Silver Screen material

This would be a great blockbuster movie! It's got action, romance and people with abilities, what's not to like. It's like Divergent meets x-men meets Cinderella. I really can't wait until the next book comes out.

Disappointing narration-- great story

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narration was lacking, often had to listen to parts multiple times to figure out who said what. And she changed her pronunciation of things sometimes it's very disconnecting, really took away from the experience. Will be returning because of it.
