Publisher's Summary

From birth to death, The War is all the citizens of Dystance know. As children it is drilled into their heads that war is the purpose behind all existence.
Winter doesn't agree. She's stumbled across remnants of life the way it was before The War began and now she longs to be as free as her ancestors.
With help from her best friend, Cedar, and the boy she is forbidden to love, Tallow, she believes she can do it. Winter can see a life beyond the Pickets, beyond the constant hunger and the threat of death, beyond the war machine.
Can one teenage girl and her dream of a better life really change the whole world?

Never ceases to amaze.

Where does Dystance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would have to put it as a 5 but I listen to alot of books so that doesn't say much. Majority are all books by Tufo so it's a win for him

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character would have to be cedar, because she is developing a tendency to stalk and listen in on Winter. Like a little guardian angel. Who also reads tons of romances.

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

I would say Cedar because she's younger so she has to hit higher tones while speaking as her. She squeaks to since Cedar is 16 and is undoubtedly going through some changes.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, after the story was over I was extremely overjoyed to hear from Trip once more. Interested in how Tufo will swing that.

Any additional comments?

Needless to say Winter's Rising was new and to get in used to without Sean and the original Talbot clan but the characters as always grow on you. Tufo has extreme talent when creating his characters so they make you grow fond of them.

A perfect addition to the Talbot story

Would you listen to Dystance again? Why?

I already have plans to!! In case I missed anything. I'll listen again before the next book comes out too.

What other book might you compare Dystance to and why?

In my realm of books it's unique. In a good way! It's dystopian. Another book genre I'm not fond of so I haven't read many. I love the gritty movies or tv shows but no ones done it good enough for me until now!

What about Julia Whelan’s performance did you like?

Cedar - nuff said!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh a few times. Again, in a good way.

Any additional comments?

I haven't been a YA in awhile so I didn't expect to like this book add to that ... Sean wasn't reading it so I was definitely reluctant. But I trust the author so I pre-ordered it. I was hooked by the end of the second chapter & it was basically a marathon listen after that. Good strong female characters!! Great believable interaction. I need to know what will happen next!! I'm already planning on buying a couple treeware books for actual YAs that I know. I'm certain they'll love it as much as I did! Can't wait for the next book! The reader did a fantastic job! I'm not a fan of female readers but she really did a great job. For the fans of ZFO ... Trip ... Ponch ... LOL

Hunger Games & Divergent But With Extras

Would you listen to Dystance again? Why?

Yes, when i started i must admit i thought not another Divergent book, but no it goes way bigger!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not sure liked quite a few think Cedar due to the sence of humour :)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The whole book was good but the end twists and turns and emotional roller coaster will grab you.

Any additional comments?

I am a Mark Tufo fan, so i got this of course, after the first hour i was a bit nervous as i was thinking another divergent/hunger games but after 2 hours in i was really starting to enjoy the book, the story was getting stronger than similar ones at this stage, even if you don't get the associated references in this book to Mark's other books you will really enjoy this book, the story gets better and better and bigger and bigger. The twists an turns are very engrossing. shame only just over 10 hours as the book was done in a day, most enjoyable looking forward to the next one!

I have loved all of Mark Tufos books so far and also Sean the narrator (so much that I have listened twice to all of them - something I don't usually do) .
This story - although it has regular names thrown in from previous books, just doesn't have the same 'link' or 'feel' as the others had, mainly because it seems more like a teens book. None of the characters were particularly likeable (really wished they'd all died an hour into the book then it would have been over quicker) and I found the narrator so irritating I could only listen to small portions at a time (usually have head phones on for hours while doing mundane chores).
The best bit was the epilogue, better narrator, more up beat, and probably means a second book, which I will not buy because of this one.
Get rid of that narrator - she was terrible.
