Publisher's Summary

It's not so easy being Rosemary Goode and tipping the scales at almost 200 pounds - especially when your mother runs the most successful (and gossipiest!) beauty shop in town. After a spectacularly disastrous Christmas break, when the scale reaches an all-time high, Rosemary realizes that things need to change. (A certain basketball player, Kyle Cox, might have something to do with it.)
So begins a powerful year of transformation and a journey toward self-discovery that surprisingly has little to do with the physical, and more to do with an honest look at how Rosemary feels about herself.

Great for teens and adults

I greatly enjoyed listening to this novel, both because the author wrote a warm, endearing story and because the reader did such an excellent job. Supplee managed to capture the heartache of teen obesity without being preachy or maudlin. Rosemary, the main character, was strong yet vulnerable, and I could empathize with her and the other characters. The sub-plot of her mother's cancer was also handled very well, and I genuinely LIKED all of the characters...even the prickly ones. Well done.

Love, love loved this!!

I hated for this to end. I hadn't realize it was actually young adult fiction when I chose it, but it didn't matter. It's a terrific story - Supplee has an amazing insight into teenaged girls. The narrator, Eve Bianco, is one of the best I've ever heard, hands down. Her southern accent is spot on. I couldn't tell if she is actually southern or not. An absolutely wonderful witty, engaging story.
