Publisher's Summary

Susan Backstrom seems to have a charmed life - but she also has dangerous family secrets. When she hears some kids talking about exploring a nearby haunted house, Susan asks to join them, even though she knows what might happen if she gets caught. The teenagers discover that there is indeed a ghost, and the house itself is a living, supernatural thing. With the help of five new friends - three humans, one ghost, and House - Susan has what she needs to build a new life, if she dares.

Not that well written, but....

Despite the characters being one dimensional for the most part, I still remember this story a few months after listening to it, so it must have something that caught my interest!

Ending falls off. Where's the rest of the book?

Mix a ghost, a psychic house, and a abusive home life. It's an interesting study on emotional child abuse, suicide, and secrets. It had some real potential. But the throwing in of another child character toward the end, and the lack of resolution were real problems. I know, child abuse and spousal abuse are serious issues with no easy answers. But to provide no answer in the end except **SPOILERS FOLLOWING** suck it up mom and child. one takes a beating and the other keeps trying for perfection until someone dies or can leave home.

I feel as if the author bit off more than she could chew and didn't know how to create a satisfying end, so made of some artistic rational to justify what is really just a poor resolution.
