Publisher's summary

They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed to save, but I know who saved me.

We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe.

And then he disappeared.

Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t been for years. While death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with scars - the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into darkness. But more than anything else, that day - and every day since - has taken away my desire to dream.

I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things - they weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed... until the new boy.

He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer, and his body is lean - strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me - his eyes constantly questioning, doubting... daring. Still, something about him - it feels... familiar.

He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else. Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.

This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew, is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from myself.

Touching, beautiful story so far...

Joss is a typical girl she loves to run races with her friends the odd kid Christopher shows up one time and Joss just can't stop starring at him wondering about him. One day changes Joss's life forever and the weird boy saves her life but vanishes. 8 years later and Joss has changed really not caring about life has no one that loves her. Joss's dad is always drunk and is hardly home. Joss meets Wes the pitcher of the baseball team and something about him reminds her of love, safeness even though Joss puts up a fight Wes is determined to not give up on her. Wes we really don't know his story yet but the boy is like super man never gets hurt but always is there to help. Will Joss put down her walls and finally show the courage and strength she's always had? I can't wait to for book 2 to find out Wes's story it's driving me crazy not knowing exactly who he is. 5/5 beautiful stars Never give up on life someone out there is always watching and loving you. The narrator brought the story to life!

Unexpected!

Wow, I'm totally blown away and its not even over! I must listen to the next book in this duet A Girl Like Me.
The things Josselyn went through in this book are very different than what I have read before. Its a nice change. And Wes, seriously what the heck is up with him! I hope we find out in book 2. I'm surprised with how fast this story went by.
I believe this is my first listen to Kai Kennicott. She did an amazing job with all of the voices and has a pleasant voice to listen to.
If you're a fan of some similarities of Twilight or even the movie Unbreakable, I highly recommend this book.
