I love this series. I cannot say enough great things about it. And then to get to experience it all over again in audio it simply stupendous! Rue Volley has a created a world for readers of all ages to get lost in. Through her vision even a damp, dark, and cold town like Port Royal still sounds inviting. Weird, right?
Narrator Sarah Puckett is absolutely fanfreakingstastic!!!! Sarah has nailed Echo exactly how I have envisioned her. She delivers and Oscar winning performance! Bravo!
Fans of Twilight should be flocking to this series. While not the same story, it does have a Twilight vibe to it. But dare I say it's way cooler because Echo is multi dimensional and a well developed character. (Bring on the Haters, lol)
I cannot wait till the next installment!
“13 Ways To Midnight: Book Two,” picks up where book one left off. It is over a year since Echo’s twin sister, Midnight, died. Echo has gone to live with her aunt Luna, who is a witch, in a town with a secret vampire population. We still have the annoying Echo endlessly whining about her dead sister, whom I personally don’t believe is dead. Perhaps I’ll be proven right in the next book. Anyway, Echo still performs inner monologues, speaking to herself in a way that is not very believable for an average teenager. Then again, Echo really isn’t an average teenager, so maybe I should reconsider.
For me, book two didn’t become interesting until almost the very end of the book, after a reality-altering magic spell was performed. That event should have happened much sooner with the remainder of the book being how Echo deals with the aftermath of the spell. I would have found that much more interesting to read than what author, Rue Volley chose for her readers/listeners. In fact, although I feel book two is definitely better than book one, the story still crawls. I really feel that book one and book two should have been combined into one book.
Narrator, Sarah Puckett returns for book two and does a fine job. I will assume she will be doing the rest of the series. That helps a bit, but the “13 Ways To Midnight” series still has a ways to go before it wins me over.
