Publisher's summary

Debut author Dawn Kurtagich is dead on in this terrifying psychological thriller!

Over two decades have passed since the fire at Elmbridge High, an inferno that took the lives of five teenagers. Not much was known about the events leading up to the tragedy - only that one student, Carly Johnson, vanished without a trace....

...until a diary is found hidden in the ruins.

But the diary, badly scorched, does not belong to Carly Johnson. It belongs to Kaitlyn Johnson, a girl who shouldn't exist. Who was Kaitlyn? Why did she come out only at night? What is her connection to Carly?

The case has been reopened. Police records are being reexamined: psychiatric reports, video footage, text messages, emails. And the diary.

The diary that paints a much more sinister version of events than was ever made publicly known.

For the first time in so long

For years now I have not felt, for lack of a better word, fear instilled in me by movies, shows, etc. This book has truly given me an experience that I am quite fond of. The conflict that I feel from my logical reasoning and my want for the supernatural is what makes me adore this book to its core.

Existential Terror at its Best

My daughter (13) read and introduced me to this book as she knew I was an avid fan of HP Lovecraft’s works. Curious, I decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed. Although I both read and listened to different parts I highly recommend the audiobook. It was extremely well done and I think the production added an emotional dimension of desperation that provided further enjoyment to the story.

A very ambitious and well performed story.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Dead House to be better than the print version?

Yes, absolutely.

What did you like best about this story?

The unexpected twists, relatable characters, and edge of your seat tension maintained throughout most of the book. I found myself cheering for characters at moments and hating them at others, this is mostly due to the outstanding performance from Charlotte and Christian.

Have you listened to any of Charlotte Parry and Christian Coulson ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but I will in the future, their performance was spot on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's a bit long for that, this book is perfect for long road trips.

Any additional comments?

This is worth the listen for anyone who might like a book about: hauntings, psychological thrillers, or mystery.

Best narration i have ever heard!

When I first read "the dead house" i was so impressed by the story and how it was laid out. I was completely drawn into the feelings and emotions of all the characters. Being written as is, I still have a hard time believeing it is not a true story!
Since I loved the story as I did, I decided to get the audiobook to listen at work. This was the best decision I have made about an audiobook to this day! There are almost no words to describe how the narrators bring the characters to life. the emotion and sence of realism is amazing. I have now listened to this book start to finsh, 4 times. I am sure it will not be the last! So, if you are reading this and wondering if it is worh getting, DO IT! you will not be disappointed!

OK YA Mystery

I don't know how I feel about this book, It had too many elements in it for it to solidy come together. The premise of multiple personalities was intriguing, also that it is being told through interviews, videos and the diary of the main character(s) was unique. If your an adult you might want to skip it...Theres angst and poetry in this book of the teenage variety.
