Publisher's summary

Bringing the Trojans to life - newly updated!

Tom Kelly, the legendary signature voice of USC sports for nearly five decades, combines with co-author Tom Hoffarth of the Daily News of Los Angeles to take Trojan fans on a journey of memories and previously untold anecdotes from and about many of the great coaches, players, teams, and games in USC football history, as well as other sports. His story in Southern California starts with the recommendation of Jack Buck that he be hired as Chick Hearn’s color man on USC football and basketball games in 1961. During Kelly’s 40-plus year run, the Trojans boasted five Heisman Trophy winners, won five national championships, and played in 14 Rose Bowls and 24 overall bowl games. Kelly, who won five Golden Mike Awards and was named California’s Sportscaster of the Year three times, was inducted into USC’s Hall of Fame. His stories and anecdotes will become a must-listen for all Trojan fans.

Great story, poor choice for narrator

Story is written by a legendary broadcaster who speaks with great enthusiasm. The narrator does not convey that level of enthusiasm and also wasn't given the courtesy of help with pronouncing important names. John Wooden is a ucla guy, but still he doesn't deserve to have his name pronounced "WOO-den". Tommy Prothro, also a bruin, name shouldn't rhyme with "broth-RO". And legendary Trojan Pete Beathard is not "BEAT-hard". This book is a treasure of memories for a USC fan, so it's disappointing that the producers didn't put more effort into matching the story with a better narration.

Not really about USC football

This isn’t a bad book but it really has almost nothing to do with USC or sideline stories. It’s really a biography of Tom Kelly and his life and professional experiences which includes some USC but all of his other teams and experiences too. If you looking for a book about USC football, this won’t offer a lot other than one chapter which doesn’t cover past the 70’s.

Interesting stories awful narration

If you are a USC fan, you will surely want to hear the stories that Tom Kelly had to share. Unfortunately, the narration could not be more flat monotone or boring. I honestly wasn’t sure if it was a real person or a I attempting to read a book out to you. I have no idea who hired this man canary Facebook that I hope they never hired him again for anything else. I hate to be harsh, but his narration is just got awful.
