Insightful Analysis and Commentary
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to a friend before reading "Lord of the Flies" because the insightful commentary provided in depth analysis that would otherwise be missed if one read the book alone. I read the book numerous times as a teen but my intuitions and thought were not put into words until I listened to this CliffNotes of the book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite characters are four: Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon. I enjoy witnessing how they interact with one another. If I had to pick one boy with whom to identify I would pick Simon--the mystic and prophet who needs time alone to think and meditate. The other boys deem him to be strange and crazy. I feel like Simon everyday. I once painted double portrait of him and the Lord of the Flies.
What about Nick Podehl’s performance did you like?
Nick Podehl’s performance was seamless. I heard the boys and not him.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to listen to this audiobook all in one sitting. I finished it in two days.
Any additional comments?
Among the many books I read decades ago as a teen, "Lord of the Flies" reigns supreme as the book that had the greatest impact on me as a person and a writer. I still have the copy my brother gave me for Christmas 1978. Now an adult, I wanted to get more out of the book than just rereading it alone. The CliffNotes provided the means for me to understand and appreciate the book now more than I did when I was a kid. Even if you think you know the story and have read the book, I highly recommend that you enjoy the CliffNotes to get more out of the book.
