Strange but compelling listen

This edgy tale will take you on a very strange journey through the drug-addled mind of a father trying to keep himself and his son alive when they become trapped in a storage facility just before Christmas. Jim, (the Impatient one) I think you will like this. Not completely a nail biter but still pretty creepy. And thanks for all your great reviews/tips-- the headlines alone are laugh out loud funny and the insights-- priceless.

Scary Good and it's not a Zombie book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The story is original and well told.

What other book might you compare Self Storage to and why?

I cannot think of one that compares to this original story. It was well thought out and written. It kept me interested through the whole story. I never will enter a self-storage unit again without someone knowing where I am going.

Have you listened to any of Nick Santa Maria’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first performance by Nick Santa Maria that I have listened to so far. Very good performance overall.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Wow, I got chills from listening to this story.

Not pleasant listening

Well, I certainly wouldn't recommend this book to my mother! The story itself is good but the main character is thoroughly selfish and dislikeable. It is difficult to imagine that any mother would allow him access to their six year old son, Jacob. The story is full of atmospheric tension and is well written but I did find some of the language and sexual scenes a step too far. The narrator reads very quickly so you can't afford to become distracted. Lastly, although the little boy's name is 'Jacob' his father mostly calls him 'Buddy', which I found extremely irritating. I'm not tempted to listen to more from either the author or the narrator.
