—Clark Howard, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Living Large in Lean Times

"Financial planner Wes Moss offers you something different - not just a plan to retire, but a way to do it sooner and to be happy when you do."
Atlanta Journal Constitution

If you think you need to win the lottery or work until you're 75 to retire with financial stability, Money Matters host Wes Moss has very good news for you. You Can Retire Sooner Than You Think reveals the secrets for ensuring a successful retirement - sooner rather than later.

After conducting an intensive study of happy retirees to learn the financial practices they hold in common, Moss discovered that it doesn't take financial genius, millions of dollars, or sophisticated investment skills to ensure a safe, solid retirement. All it takes is five best practices:

  • Determine what you want and need your retirement money for
  • Figure out how much you need to save
  • Create a plan to pay off your mortgage in as little as five years
  • Develop an income stream from multiple sources
  • Become an income investor

Getting on the fast track to a great retirement is a lot simpler than the retirement professionals would have you believe. You Can Retire Sooner Than You Think provides the proven-effective, five-step formula for creating the retirement of your dreams.

graphs/diagrams

the book is awesome, very interesting the only downfall was when you download the audio version you do not get the grass or diagrams that compliment the book. need to have a place where you can download all the extras in a PDF file.

all over the page

some of the basic premises and study statistics seem questionable to me. and some are just meaningless. like "unhappy retirees drive BMWs". the case studies are contrived. there is A LOT of repetition. I fast forwarded a lot. the basic brilliant premise that for every $1000 of monthly income you want, you'll need $240,000 in your 401K strikes me as incorrect. $1,000x12 mo x 20 yr = 240,000. what about the taxes you'll pay when you take it out? my math says you need $350,000. with this premise qnd half the "happiness study" statistics debunked there isnt much fresh innovative info in the book.

Best retirement book I've read.

I would recommend this book for all ages from 20s to already retired. Some of it was info I already knew but knowing what happy retirees do was very useful and will change a few of my plans.

Not a Must Read and Adds Little Value

Definitely not a must read (or even close to it). The highlight (and highlight may be generous) was the chapter on income investing and structuring your portfolio in different buckets. Otherwise, too much of the book covered the vague notion of "happiness" in retirement. In that regard, the author confuses correlation with causation habitually and wastes pages upon pages on meaningless details about the personal activities and agendas of certain retirees. This made much of the book unfocused and difficult to get through. With the possible exception of the chapter on income investing, I found the actual financial guidance sprinkled throughout the book to be high-level, arbitrary and at times wrong or questionable (for example, the author posits you can make 100% returns of your investment each year from highly leveraged rental real estate investments while neglecting to account for expenses or debt service payments). I don't want to be too harsh, because there were some nuggets I took from the book, but it is not close to being on the top of my list of personal finance books.
