Inspiration for Consecrated of Secular Institutes

Would you listen to Words of Inspiration again? Why?

I have listened to this a couple of times already and will be listening again! I am discerning a vocation to a female secular institute of pontifical right. St. John Paul II's words of encouragement, exhortation and inspiration are helping me to better understand the call to consecrated secularity and to discern how God is calling me to serve him. This is perfect listening for Catholics in consecrated life and those discerning a vocation to consecrated life (especially the secular institutes) or ordained ministry. Do you know a young person who you believe God might be calling? How about a friend or family member or pastor who is in consecrated life or ordained ministry? Give it as a gift!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The personality and holiness of (now Saint) Pope John Paul II definitely shine through his speeches and writing to the consecrated members of the secular institutes. I hadn't read much of his work before and definitely will now.

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the part when the Holy Father exhorts: If you have met Christ, proclaim it in the first person!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved hearing from the Holy Father that the vocation of the secular institutes is an invitation from Jesus and indispensable for building up the Church. It really touched my heart!

Any additional comments?

This was originally published in book form in Italian at the Vatican as Alpinisti Dello Spirito (Mountaineers of the Spirit) in 1994. I'm astonished and grateful that Atria undertook to publish an English edition in 2001 (there are only about 350 consecrated seculars in the U.S.A.) Then an abridged audio edition by Simon and Schuster in 2001! Downloadable for $7 and change from audible.com? God is good! Catholic Christians, please listen to this! Especially if you are single and childless and wondering what God wants you to do with your life.
