Publisher's Summary

Author of the best seller Will I Ever Be Good Enough? Healing the Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers, Dr. Karyl McBride draws on her expertise in treating children and partners damaged by narcissists in this practical new guide to divorce and its aftermath.
With more than three decades of experience as a licensed marriage and family therapist, Dr. McBride guides you through the emotional fallout and challenges of being married to and divorcing a narcissist. The court system assumes that both parties in most high-conflict divorces are at fault, but a narcissist can wreak havoc in the divorce process. Dr. McBride shows how to navigate this kind of divorce and how you and your children can heal afterward.
Written for those considering or already going through divorce as well as the professionals working with them, Will I Ever Be Free of You? has three parts: "Recognizing the Problem", "Breaking Free", and "Healing from the Debilitating Impact of Narcissistic Relationships". You begin by learning exactly what narcissism is, how to identify it, and how it affects relationships, then how to begin and carry on through a divorce and make the best decisions for you and your children. Dr. McBride lays out a road map of trauma recovery for the whole family, offering a step-by-step program for recognizing and healing from the particular emotional damage that narcissism causes.
This guide offers new therapeutic strategies and practical guidance for protecting yourself and your children through this difficult time.

Good ideas. But, author should not narrate.

Narcissists are not cool. But many of the ideas and lists might want to clarify the spectrum of the disorder and not just black box them - bad people yes, maybe. However, still people that act certain ways that can be understood and maybe handled based upon their own drives. Need more explanation here on what drives the behavior. This would help in untangling their over-bearing issues.
Reading needs a narrator that is a professional. This would help eliminate some of the monotone and inhalation noises that came along for the reading - especially at the end of the book (breath sounds) and the section on child abuse (monotone)? Needed a bit more effort to emphasize a point here and there.

Actions to take against narcissist craziness and the courts lack of insight were helpful. But not everyone married to a narcissist can't stand up for themselves. As a male and ex-spouse, not all information was relevant - the guys perspective here could be beefed up?
That ALL said, listen up and read/listen to this book - especially if you are still listening to the demands of narcissists person in your life. Simply, nobody else seems to want to address this issue - including the courts, mediators, and especially the narcissist.

Highly Recommend

Where does Will I Ever Be Free of You? rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My reading matter is varied but I purchased this book to provide insight into partners with NPD for my work, this book met my expectations of what I wanted to get from it.

What other book might you compare Will I Ever Be Free of You? to and why?

I recently purchased a number of books on this topic and this is the one I chose to read first, I found it a good buy.

What about Karyl McBride’s performance did you like?

Not many writers can pull of reading their book but I found this fairly easy to listen to and thought she gave a credible performance.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Will I Ever Be Free of You??

I thought it will make a useful resource for someone like me who works with clients in DV relationships. I think clients who are in an abusive relationship would benefit from reading or listening to this book as many of them feel like they are going mad because people outside the home have also brought into the charm and manipulation of the Narcissist and believe the victim is neurotic and has MH issues.

Any additional comments?

Really insightful look at Narcissist Personality Disorder behavior for those still in the relationship, thinking of separating or divorced from someone with NPD.

Amazingly written.

Wish we had this years ago but even though my children are in their twenties, I can help them deal with him now. All this time and now I have confirmation
that what we suspected and were confused by, was his narcissism. Thank you.
