Publisher's Summary

Don't get the wrong idea; this book is all about empowering women to be great wives in loving marriages with incredible men! In this book, Why Marry a Man You Don't Need, Carmen Hope Thomas takes on the task of confronting sisters who have been successful in their career but not equally successful in their relationships. Carmen's perspective is refreshing and reflective because she shares her personal journey toward a happy marriage and motherhood, all while empowering women everywhere to be honest about the myths and misinformation that have shaped their ideas about men and marriage. Carmen will take you through the exercise of looking at your success, career and money women celebrate and help reveal her calculated theory of why some women have chosen their successes over a healthy relationship and how that choice affects our entire faith community.

Pleasant surprise

I totally stumbled upon this book and, despite my great dislike for how-to books and lectures directed at single (black) women, selected it to support my extended village as I recognized the author's name as a fellow alumnus of Oakwood University. I'm glad that I did.
I truly appreciated Carmen's down to earth perspective, and her challenge and encouragement to my demographic---a single, Black American, Christian, midcareer professional woman who still wants marriage. She provided a nice mix of stories, reflections, and stats to make her points more applicable. She did her work! It was not at all what I expected, but timely food for thought for me. I've already recommended it to one of my bffs and my sister.
I've never met the author, but am proud of her work in this book. She is officially a big sister in my head, LOL! Nice work, sis. And THANK YOU. :-)
