Can't stop talking about it

I listened to this book and then recommended it to my wife. She loved it even more than me.

This book may not be for you if you aren’t willing to consider an alternative to business as usual. If you have an open mind and are willing to consider all possibilities, then this may be the perfect book for you. Jason did a great job of explaining the benefits of the Vanabode way to travel. After a thorough comparison of different modes of travel, Jason went into the details of exactly how to travel in style the Vanabode way.

What I like most about the book isn’t even the book. It is the access you get to a guy that has lived what he has written about. I emailed Jason and within the hour he replied with an answer to my question and links to great content on the web that you won’t find without help. Days later I sent another email and again Jason was quick to respond.

Our spending habits are one of the primary reasons we must work so hard just to make ends meet. Listen to Jason, what he says can free you from years of drudgery. You will be able to see and do things you probably didn’t think possible.

Inspiring

Any additional comments?

After reading Walden on Wheels a few years ago, I was intrigued by the van dwelling lifestyle to save money. While I'm happy in my permanent home, I found Vanabode to be a great inspiration and encouragement to living light and free on the road for my future exploration and travels around the U.S. I can't wait to put Jason's techniques to use, and he makes himself available for questions through his forum as well. I highly recommend this book to those exploring a less consumerist and more free and adventurous lifestyle. I loved this book!

Arrogant and quite nearly useless

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Perhaps if the author didn't refer to people who didn't do things his way as idiots? Or maybe if the narrator didn't sound like his way was the only way, and anyone who was listening was obviously dumber than him? Most of the information was for me, quite obvious. Though I kept listening hoping there would be something new. I'm sure there is plenty that is worthwhile on the website that is incessantly being advertised in the book.

What do you think your next listen will be?

The China Study

What didn’t you like about Dave Wright’s performance?

Monotonous, and arrogant. Every sentence ended with a kind of sneering feeling of "don't you get it dumbass?"

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Vanabode?

I would slash it to bits. Maybe just leave in the poetry, and even that was horrible when read with the monotone arrogance of this voice.

Any additional comments?

No I think I have said enough, and spent more than enough time on this. Maybe it's worth pointing out that this is the FIRST ever review I have actually taken the time to write.

Great Ideas on how to live well on less money

I've been drawing close to retirement and have decided to fulltime RV. I wish I had come across this book 40 years ago. I would have avoided all the hassles of keeping up with the Joneses and could have lived simply and free.

With the direction the economy is heading, this is the advice I will give to my grandchildren.

I am comprising with my wife for now by buying a van to pull a small travel trailer for full timing for now. Hopefully we can move to just using the van in the future.

Thank you Jason!

Interesting ideas

The author's core premise is true, the USA is obsessed with possessions we don't need. We've been duped by the mad men of advertising. The author shows how it is possible to live full time in a van. While it might not be as comfortable as a house, he shows just how little we really need, and the lifestyle sounds tempting. Thus, he makes his point regarding possessions, in short, they don't make us happy, regardless of what the mad men want you to believe.

The narrator was a little flat, thus the four star rating.

Boastful without substance

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Author spend most of the time saying what he was going to tell you so you too could enjoy the Vanabode life, invoked God into his story only to then talk about enjoying trial memberships at health clubs and making it clear that you should not tell them you have no plans of joining....ethical???, and hiding in his van with the shades drawn to not be discovered. Freedom? Not so much. Did not finish book. Just not for me.
