Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author and Hollywood producer DeVon Franklin speaks out frankly and openly about why men behave the way they do and what everyone - men and women alike - need to know about it.

We hear it all the time. Men cheat. Men love power. Men love sex. Men are greedy. Men are dogs. But is this the truth about men?

In this groundbreaking book, DeVon Franklin dishes the real Truth About Men by making the compelling case that men aren’t dogs, but all men share the same struggle. He uses the metaphor of a dog that needs training as a way to explore why behavior persists in men that can lead them to act against their vows, their integrity, and even their character.

DeVon provides the manual for how men can change, both on a personal and a societal level by providing practical solutions for helping men learn how to resist temptation, how to practice self-control, and how to love. He argues the same discipline that drives men in their professional lives needs to be applied to their private lives. DeVon is also transparent about the challenges he faces daily as he endeavors to “Master the Dog” within.

But The Truth About Men isn’t just for men. DeVon tells female listeners everything they need to know about men. He offers women a real-time understanding of how men’s struggle affects them, insights that can help them navigate their relationships with men, and information on how to heal from the damage that some misbehaving men may have inflicted.

This book is a raw, informative, and compelling look at an issue that threatens to tear our society apart, yet it offers a positive way forward for men and women alike.

The Truth For Real

Ok, My wife and I listened to this book on a long round trip road trip and had great opportunities to pause and discuss certain points throughout the book. As a man, I am always initially reluctant to be open minded toward any resource that claims to be the truth about any subject matter, let alone men! This book even addresses that reluctance as a man! But to continue in making my initial point, what an amazing eye opening book! DeVon Franklin has taken great care in walking the reader or listener for that matter through every aspect of how a man thinks and operates! I must admit, there were times I wish I was listening to this book alone, there were moments of truth that left me frozen like a deer in headlights, and that’s certainly not good while driving 🙂. During the drive I was immediately forced to confront several truths that I knew I was evading hoping to address at a later time. Devon did an excellent job laying out how the benefits of addressing these truths outweigh the moments of embarrassment when facing them! I could go on and on but I won’t! Get the book brothers! I gifted them to both my mom and dad on audible! Anyone on planet earth that completes this book will certainly have a better advantage in life! Thanks Devon and God Bless! Tony Lowe

TRUTH and TRANSPARENCY

Let me begin by saying that I THANK GOD for DeVon Franklin. I expected #TheTruth--that's what I've found in all of his writings; however, I was blown away with the transparency. Truly a man that has learned to master himself and what's needed to maintain a healthy marriage.

OK, full transparency from me. I've been told by dogs that when a man cheats, it has noting to do with the woman, and this book finally convinced me. There are certain women that, I thought, a man would be crazy to cheat on (READ: He did NOT cheat on his wife). I now understand that until the man does the work, he will not ever master the dog.

What I loved most about the book is that there are practical solutions for both men and women, who are willing to do the work.

Well done sir!

Count to ten?

This book might be a true account of men; if so it makes me sad and a little mad. So men are consistently resisting lust and women need to understand? Maybe this is just a hard read for a woman, but not feeling good after this.

To proud to listen before eyes wide open now!

Let me start off by saying this is an amazing book. Me a man of 33 never been married and always had a hard time committing before I met my girl. I came to my awakening when I almost lost the best thing I’ve ever had in my life that is my girlfriend Hilda. This came when she received an anonymous Instagram message saying very negative stuff about me which had no truth to it but the damage was done. She told me it was over going through a Trumatic family situation herself at the time she just didn’t want to deal with it. Me being the prideful man we’re all brought up to be felt like I didn’t do anything wrong! where is the proof I asked myself that being said Days and turned into weeks. So one day I found myself sitting on my bed filling alone Feeling like my life was a mess since the whole time since the break up to cover up the pain By surrounding myself with my single friends and try to hide the pain with a fake smile and lots of drinks I knew I had to do something. I remembered hearing about this book on an interview Of the breakfast club so I decided to look it up and fell in love with it right away it really makes you look into yourself that’s when I knew I had to get my girl back excepting my flaws And all the wrong I’ve done not in cheating way But in a way where I was never there for her emotionally when she needed me the most I think that cause the most hurt I told her I know I was wrong and I was ready to change. I even told her about the book and told her I would love it if you would read it to. So we both have a better understanding of what growing up a man really was like and how Most men don’t have that emotional connection or emotional sensitivity like the book says men are not taught how to love. I mean we show it in some ways but if we show it to much in our in our inner programming it becomes a sign of weakness after finishing this book I knew I was wrong just never cared but now using some of the steps mentioned in the book to help repair my relationship I hope we can get things back on track.
thank you!

Bad. Just plain bad.

The author makes all men to be lustful, selfish, irresponsible and that all men just want sex and power and that women are helpless, powerless and victims. Geez man, really?

This book is a game changer for men and women. Everyone needs to read this book!

I can’t agree more with Devon’s views on purity and protecting your relationship. His candid honesty with his own struggles, and a practical solution brings so much hope for this generation that is craving a leader in the area of relationships. Devon shows how to practically uphold integrity while still being free to be honest about the real struggles we all face. I will be recommending this book to all of my friends, married and single, and this will be a deal breaker for the next guy I date to read ;)

Enough with "the dog"

The content within this book could have been presented in fewer chapters. It sounded more like a undergrad research paper being read, fluff and all. And the number of times he used the phrase "the dog" nearly caused me to quiet reading/ listening. If this wasn't an assigned book club undertaking, I would have counted my losses and started on a different book.

Great read!!

This book just confirmed a lot about what I have learned about men over the years. I really appreciate Devon’s honesty and transparency from both a man’s and woman’s perspective. I highly recommend reading this boon if you are dating and looking to get married one day. As a woman, I’ve learned to have standards and know my worth; if someone tries to discourage me from having standards I ignore it.
