Very Interesting, Poorly Organized

What did you love best about The Power of When?

This concept is very interesting and enabled me to take natural rhythms into account when organizing my personal schedule, from morning to evening. It also helped me to coordinate better with my husband and understand his optimal schedule.

What three words best describe Michael Breus’s voice?

Pleasant, lively, enjoyable

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

There are several types of "people" when it comes to sleep. I find myself understanding others better by figuring out which type they are and considering their actions in light of that.

Any additional comments?

Although I enjoyed the book, I found myself to be a bit of an outlier. I took the quiz five times and each time I was deemed a dolphin. However, my husband and I both thought I was a lion. But I trusted the expert in this case and followed the dolphin schedule for two weeks, very stringently. Unfortunately, it was a complete failure for me. Just about every aspect of the schedule conflicted with what my body was telling me and I did not adjust to it. So I re-read the sections on the lion type and decided to try that instead. The lion schedule feels so natural to me and makes me feel happy, healthy, and rested. So, despite what the quiz told me, I am now 100% sure that I am a lion and my husband agrees.
For those readers who did not find this beneficial or accurate to their natural rhythms, I would encourage you to try the other schedules in this book before giving up on it. If one of them works well for you, then the added effort will be worth it.
Another criticism I have regards the organization of the book. It is very choppy, difficult to navigate, and not intuitive in format. It almost seems like the first draft before being professionally edited. I wonder if it was put together hastily and published without sufficient editing time? I do appreciate the content, and I hope that future editions will be better formatted.

Review

It was an interesting read. I think some things were applicable, but then others weren't or didn't seem applicable to my life.

The chronorhythme were good to learn about, but I feel like it could even be taken a step further. I think there are people that are between maybe a lion and a bear, or bear and wolf.

A must-read for everyone!

This is a fantastic book and I recommend EVERYBODY should read it. There is a review of it at https://psychcentral.com/lib/book-review-the-power-of-when/ by another psychologist.

The reason it is important is in understanding ourselves, our kids and grandkids and those we deal with. Once a better understanding of chronotypes (the four categories of humanity) is gained, we can improve our lives and better understand and deal with others in the world. Now that I have read the book, I plan to read it again!

awesome book

I love how the author actually presents his findings with not only his knowledge but with actually study results. I knew alot of the things in this book but I never pin pointed stuff because I thought it was just me. it was really cool to hear/read the science in this book. I loved this book and bought 4 copies of it to give to family and friends.
