Publisher's summary

When it comes to the unknown territory of having a baby, moms to be have nearly unending resources to plan and execute a healthy pregnancy and navigate those first months and years as a parent with confidence. New dads? Not so much. They want to get in the game, too, but, says Super Bowl champion Benjamin Watson, "I could find clearer directions for putting together a baby swing than for taking care of a newborn child."

The New Dad's Playbook is every man's game plan to being the best partner and the best father, from preseason (preparing for fatherhood) to Super Bowl (birth) to postseason (after baby is home). It helps men understand what their wives are going through physically and emotionally during and after pregnancy, allowing them to support their most important teammate. It tells men what to expect when their baby is home - and what to do when the unexpected happens. This tell-it-like-it-is book will take men from just winging it to winning it.

I stopped reading this religious propaganda

I was truly excited about reading this book. But I was really shocked and stopped listening when I heard "it is our responsibility to talk to children about Jesus christ our lord and savior".... This is bad and harmful religious propaganda and I will be asking for a refund. Terrible choice aimed to new fathers to be converted to religion and indoctrinate children.

Superb!

A fantastic read for a Dad to be or Dad who already is today. A lot of really useful wisdom and I formation. Greatful for a Jesus Following Brother to take time to impart his story and advice as well as yield to HIS will. Highly recommend!

Warning Required: God Heavy Propaganda

there needs to be some sort of warning for this book. it comes off as a normal expectant father book. however, both introductions and the first chapter about every other sentence is some sort of propaganda regarding our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. hopefully I can get a refund that this was not what I expected when I purchased it

There are better options

Information was ok but saying god will make sure the baby has what it needs is not helpful or informative. Feels like I wasted my time with this book.

A must read for all new dads!

As a new dad, I truly wish I had discovered this book much earlier, but as they say, it's never too late to enhance one's knowledge and experience. The wisdom and insights that Mr. Benjamin Watson imparts in this book are nothing short of invaluable. They are not only timeless but also presented in a wonderfully simple yet profoundly impactful manner. I cannot express my gratitude enough for sharing this ultimate playbook for us new dads. Thank you immensely.

Not what I was expecting

I was expecting a more in-depth parenting book aimed at fathers. I felt like this book is more geared towards how to be a better husband. Frankly, I think this book would be perfect for women discerning a husband. Once you pick your spouse I am not sure how much this book recommends can actually change. Even more so, once you start having kids with your spouse even less change is expected.

I wish this book was more detailed on the parenting information sections. For example there is a part where the author talks about his wife entering in a false labor and they timed the contractions and had a sigh of relief knowing it was false labor, and that was it. Why would a parenting book for expecting father's not then lead into a chapter about labor? Especially when the book hints that the author does have the knowledge about types of labors and false labors.

After reading this book I feel two things. One, that women are just damned if they really did not take the husband tips in this book into account before getting married. Two, that I now need to go find another book that covers aspects of pregnancy that this book mentions but does not explain.

More like new dad pamphlet

This book basically is just Benjamin bragging about blowing thousands of dollars on stuff to pamper his wife without talking to her and then suggesting us normals should do the same. “Is your wife not feeling pretty? I spent thousands in a brand new wardrobe. You want to give her a gift? I bought her photo shoot (before they became popular and cheap) along with clothes, hair and make up artists.” He refers to all the “science” in the book, when in actuality he spends about 10 minutes combined talking about actual development of the baby. If you want a book that reminds you to be a good husband to your pregnant wife, this is the book for you. That is if you are able to get past the arm breaking pats on the back he gives himself then references later in the book.

Solid nuggets but incredibly preachy

Some very valuable advice, nuggets of wisdom and ideas for how to show up as a good husband during pregnancy. Just be ready for VERY heavy evangelism in numerous of the sections.
I’m also not a big fan of the “god will provide” mentality surrounding the decision to have large families.
Obviously as with anything just grain of salt what you hear.
