Narrator

This is not a review of the book itself, but of the narration. I see that the narrator is Jason McCoy. The narrator on this version is not a man, but a woman. She reads too fast and with no emotion. I don't feel I can listen to her and get anything out of this marvelous book. I'm sorry for this. Thanks for the free download, but if Jason McCoy isn't reading, then this is misleading your customers who like good voices. If this IS Jason, then there is still an issue.

The Narrator Ruins The Book

How could the performance have been better?

This is a really excellent book. I have read it, so I bought the audio version to listen to in the car or when going to sleep. I do things like that. Unfortunately, I should have listened to the preview before purchasing it. In my opinion, the narrator absolutely ruins the book. She has a very annoying voice, and what's more is it is monotone ... places where she should be using intonation, she doesn't. Do yourself a favor and find this on audio some other way. Please don't judge the book by this audio version. There is so much insight in this book that it can change your life (and your way of thinking, which is exactly what this book is about). It would be hard to get to the meaning of this book by this particular audio version. Save your $3.

A great reminder but terrible narration

Would you consider the audio edition of The Game of Life and How to Play It to be better than the print version?

No, the narrator was just reading. There was no emotion behind the voice. Her voice was rather unpleasant to listen to too. I'm glad it was a short one.

What did you like best about this story?

I like that there were some new ideas I haven't consider.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

A lot. I didn't really want to finish. I endured to the end because I do like the content.

What did you learn from The Game of Life and How to Play It that you would use in your daily life?

Ask for Divine Spirit to give me a definite lead, then plan for the blessings to occur with my actions.

Any additional comments?

Buy the book instead of the audio version.

narration is so bad that I became nauseous

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I really tried to listen to this, but the speaker was so fast I literally became dizzy and nauseous. I only absorbed about 10% of what I heard, and I had to take tums. It was like being on a spinning roller coaster.

Great Story, Bad Narration

What would have made The Game of Life and How to Play It better?

A better narrator and/or editor.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Game of Life and How to Play It?

I wasn't able to get past the 5 minute mark, so I couldn't tell you.

What didn’t you like about Dixie Glassman’s performance?

She read at a very fast pace and failed to give adequate pause between sentences, therefore, it sounded like 1 GIANT run on sentence. By doing that, she failed to emphasize and give the reader time to digest specific thoughts which are crucial in this book.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Loved the book! Hated the narration.

Any additional comments?

Read the book.

Read too fast

I have a couple versions of "The Game of Life." Frankly the audio is read so fast it's almost difficult to absorb and starts to grate on the nerves after awhile. I'd look at getting the abridged CD or perhaps looking for a volunteer version online, vs. spending the $3 here.

The Game of Life Audio content vs. narrator

I heard the audio. I think it's a good book. Nothing new, but great stuff to constantly embed mentally for the path of life. As for the narrator, obviously she can read very well. I'm a producer and talent myself, and I know there's a director or producer calling the shots in there. A talent, like a player, relies on their coach, in this case that would be the producer/director. That person has to be very familiar with content and the style "the message" is going to be delivered. The production in itself is poor. I hear many edits (places where the narrative was paused). That would seem a producer is not on top of continuity. The speed and intensity of the narrator suddenly changes, So, if the director does not notice this he/she can't coach the talent to redo it for consistency. It's hard for me to believe that the call to read this book would have been to simply throw it away type of read. It would seem to me that many passages would have required pause to think and meditate momentarily. Many others should have had a lot more dramatic style, especially if quoting from the Bible. I know this could get cliche-ish if done incorrectly, or over done, but the content's importance to the author is for the audience to capture and register the enormous message. It seemed it was read more like medical science book and not a coaching tool. It is still a great book to listen nonetheless. My dos centavos.

The narrator makes it very difficult to follow.Sad

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

THE content is good. Listening to it is not. I would recommend reading the paper version and not this audio version

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Slowing down the narrator pace. Not a good pace for such wonderful content. I'd suggest redoing the recording.

Would you be willing to try another one of Dixie Glassman’s performances?

Not sure

Do you think The Game of Life and How to Play It needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes. Something more up to date

Any additional comments?

No.

Too Fast

What would have made The Game of Life and How to Play It better?

I literally could not listen to this after 5 minutes. The narrator ruins this book by reading way too fast, with no feeling or emotion. She reads it like she is trying to get through it as fast as possible, with no intonation, monotone doesn't even describe it. They missed the mark on this one. This was a total waste of money. Someone like Kelly Howell would have been perfect for this.

How could the performance have been better?

By getting someone with more emotion to read it. Kelly Howell comes to mind.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment that I could not listen to it as I was so annoyed at her voice.
