Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling, award-winning author, actor, and motivational speaker Hill Harper invites listeners to join the conversation about the breakdown of the African-American family. The black community of past generations found strength in families, but today’s black children have less than a one in three chance of being raised in a two-parent household. Harper’s search for answers to this phenomenon is an enlightening and empowering journey.

Even if you’re not a reader….

Reading this book with my meetup group and it was awesome! I’m usually not a reader but I’m going on with dating intentionally so I understood the assignment and this book gave me great tools and thoughts!

This will help my relationship

As a man, as a black man, it’s rare to hear another brothers perspective and to hear his mistakes as well . This book has given me some direction toward where i should be and should strive to attain in my relationship.

Still relevant 2022

It brings additional perspective. I liked that he did different kinds of surveys and shared their opinions. In the end, we are struggling to make it work the way you approach it. Even the author was willing to be vulnerable, because not saying what you feel is going to skip that you're still feeling the emotions

Don’t keep this secret

This is a great tool for those who don’t know what to say or how to say what they feel. For those don’t understand this dating game and may not have a clue as to why. Listen to what the brah’s have to say and then change the way you think if they hit a button or make a valid point that could help you better communicate.

I’d like Hill to write a sequel

revealed interesting truths

I thought it was mostly opinion- based, but from an eye-opening male perspective. There were also plenty of interesting statistics. I would read it again.

Enjoyable

This audiobook was a pleasant surprised. I enjoyed the quality of the writing and the performance of the narrator. I thought this book would be like other relationship books, but this is so much more. Think of it more like social commentary on the foundation of the black family. This book is definitely a conversation worth having!
