Amazing audio book, very easy to implement changes

What did you love best about Stop Eating Your Heart Out?

The entire book is so relatable. It's filled with hope and inspiring stories. I especially appreciated the quiz she gave to see if the readers are compulsive overeaters. I found out that I definitely am, as I answered yes to many of the well-crafted questions!! I eat to cope with my emotions, to hide from them, and that is a behavior that needs to be stopped if I am ever to lose the extra 40 pounds I am carrying around with me. Meryl's book gives the reader step-by-step instructions as to how to do that. I am excited to get started implementing the plans she lays out for her llsteners. Especially because the steps follow each other in an easy-to-implement order that makes perfect sense!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Meryl herself, because she shares her own inspiring journey with such candor and heart. It's clear that she comes from a sincere place of truly wanting to help her listeners break free from the chains of emotional eating, as she has. I also love listening to her voice and find it very comforting and soothing.

Which scene was your favorite?

That is a difficult question to answer because I truly enjoyed the whole book. Meryl presents information in a way that is both interesting and insightful and she does this by sharing her own experience, strength and hope with us. This is not just an instruction manual for ending emotional eating. It is also a memoir, as she very courageously shares her own struggles with emotional eating and the many tools she has used to overcome that deeply-ingrained behavior.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The epilogue gave me chills. It is amazing to me that the very day she was finishing her manuscript, her beloved son Jonathan was taking his own life (completely unbeknownst to her at the time). That she was able to walk through his death, funeral and her own grieving process without emotional eating is a testament to the power of her commitment to her own recovery and the tools laid out in this book.

Any additional comments?

Yes. Meryl gives me tremendous hope, as I'm sure she does other listeners. Hers is a very powerfully moving journey through recovery and her instruction manual for living without emotional eating is one that everyone who's ever battled emotional eating should surely listen to. I know I will be recommending it to many of my friends and family members!

I Never Write Reviews But This Was Worth It

Wow.

I’ve struggled with emotional eating for the past two years after a bad breakup, and this book has given me more resources than a year of therapy did. I loved how the book was broken up into bite-sized activities that really got to the underlying problem surrounding my emotional eating.

Note, this book isn’t just for binge eaters - I’ve been obsessed with my weight, caloric intake, exercise, and physical appearance but had never realized the root cause of these obsessions. The activities in this book are going to make you feel raw and renewed, IF you take them seriously.

So grateful to have found this book and will definitely be re-listening to it in the future for personal growth EVEN if my emotional eating is completely gone by then. Can’t recommend this book enough, thank you Meryl!

Great resource for tools I really needed

If you could sum up Stop Eating Your Heart Out in three words, what would they be?

Genuinely relevant and useful

What did you like best about this story?

That it was read by the author who seams to have a talent for expressing her feelings in a way that everyone can relate to.

Which scene was your favorite?

I found it most helpful to me when she talked about channeling positive energy, but not using "your" energy. As a nurse I can use this skill in caring for patients. I can channel the energy from elsewhere in performing my professional role and but still save energy for myself at the end of the day and not feel the need to resort to "quick" energy in the form of things that are not as healthy for me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I related to the experience of being a chubby child and always wanting to make others happy. Once I realized that my goals and struggles were the same as that of the author, the story resonated even more with me.

Any additional comments?

I love it when books are read by the actual author. Some people don't have a talent for conveying their message vocally, but those authors who attempt it and really have something genuine to say end up speaking so much better than those who could be paid.

A binge - eater's life line

I can't say enough about this life-changing book. Packed to the brim with techniques and coping mechanisms to help one overcome this terrible disorder, it is THE BEST I've read. I'm thankful for the author sharing her story of triumph, which brings me hope that I too can overcome this disorder triumphantly. Kudos, kudos, and more kudos to her!

Not what it’s advertised as

This book wasn’t what I expected at all. I was so excited to find a book with actual tools to help me. But it was a rip-off of the 12-step progress created by AA. She basically says you won’t be successful or help yourself get over your emotional eating unless you join an AA program for binge eating. Plus I’m not a binge eater but an emotional one and this book parades it’s self as an emotional eating help guide but really it’s for food addicts/binge eaters. It’s falsely advertised and I didn’t find much of her “tools” helpful. What a let down.

To much Information for Me

For myself, this was just to much information. the daily lessons became muddled in the stories and the process. At times it almost read similar to an actual meeting. This may be precisely what some readers are looking for but for myself, I require clear and precise steps to follow. Would not recommend listening at bedtime, you will not make it through a chapter.
